Yes the article speaks for itself but seems to miss out or gloss over a number of issues. Whilst the accusations are very serious, the trial isn’t over. Nothing like jumping to conclusions before a trail has concluded or glossing over the fact that the Vatican is co-operating. He faces two trials one canonical and the other criminal. The newspaper also implies that there should be one rule for all diplomats except for those from the Vatican, it is very biased. There are a lot of people out there who commit terrible crimes and claim diplomatic immunity and their governments protect their identities and make sure they are never tried but that is rarely reported and no one seems to care (except for the victims).

@Avila123- You are right about diplomatic immunity but the Vatican has stated it would cooperate with local authorities first. Someone has broken the rules that the Pope has set by recalling him before the local authorities could act. If you read the whole article you will find that the Vatican court has found him guilty otherwise he would not have been defrocked. That alone is a very severe punishment for a priest.
Yes, clergymen of all religions should be held to a higher standing. They get up week after week and tell everyone the right way to act. They should be setting an example. Roman Catholic clergy are the only ones who can claim they are representing a country. That should not give them a free pass. I bet he will get sent to prison. The point is the Dominican Republic wanted to act first. I’m sure this was a very big embarrassment for the Pope. The nuncio was the highest ranked Catholic clergyman to ever be charged.

No, the criminal trial is not over - But the Vatican defrocked him, so must have felt the evidence to be compelling! 😦
 
Sad and disgusting story. I hope that the Nuncio is treated fairly but with heavy punishments if found guilty. No one should be abusing or sexually mistreating children.
