Really? Where did I go wrong?

Why does the God of Abraham need to impregnate some poor girl, birth himself through her, kill himself and resurrect himself?

Most of you pat yourselves on the back with the arrogant idea that you have “the one true path of salvation”. By your reckoning, the best God can do is "save"10-15 per cent of his own children.

And of those saved, are they the best portion of humanity? Would I ever even consider of spending eternity with people of the sort as “booklover”, “Versimilitude” and “ibkc”? [LaMar shakes head no]
Funny!😃
For the rest, God has created a devil spook, and a place called Hell, so that he can burn and fry the rest of humanity… Nice folks like “Sister Amy” and Richard Dawkins are supposedly going to find that their destination, who I’d much rather end up with.

Did God create the billions of people with the idea that he was going to torture most of them? If so, he’s a sadist and he’s nobody I want to give any respect to on principle. If he didn’t know how things were going to turn out, then he’s not very bright and can’t be trusted anyway.

And what about this devil? Why not just kill the devil and be done with the whole business? In the book of Job you see God meeting with the devil in various board-of-directors type gatherings, conspiring to torture the one character who seems to be a decent fellow. God killed nearly everyone on earth in the mythical flood (that never happened). Why not just kill the devil and stop all the trouble he causes?

None of this Christianity stuff makes any sense at all. You guys know this, which is why you rely on insults and getting personal rather than explaining it simply (as the Muslims do). The Muslims and Jews have at least thought their folktales through. Christianity is such a laughably transparent fraud in contrast that no intelligent person who wasn’t born into it could possibly take it seriously. I thank God (if he exists, which I doubt) that I was not born into a Christian family.
Beam me up, Scotty! Wacky, wacky!! :hypno: :whacky:

Vickie 😃

Kindly quote the hadith in which the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said this.
She doesn’t know anything about Islam, but she doesn’t know anything about her own religion either. She’s never been able to explain either, or do anything more than be insulting.

On the upside, it was this same character who originally got me interested in Al-Qur’an. She wrote some really nasty articles to someone else, with lots of out of context quotes, which sent me off to do a bit of research. It took me about an hour to realize she was completely off her rocker. In the process, I’ve learned a lot of really interesting stuff about Islam. (i.e. what Islam really is, as opposed to what the Catholics say it is).

In her own way, she does a good job at motivating open minded people to educate themselves, if only because her lies are so utterly outrageous. We should both thank her for her trouble.

2 Catholic 1 mormon not good. 4 or 5 Catholic 1 mormon and 1 muslim. Very Good.

Why waste time on your incoherent posts!

Vickie
Come clean, you’re really an anti-Catholic, aren’t you? Aren’t all these nasty posts of yours parody? Of course they are.

It’s a nice schtick you’ve got. 😉

Why are you dragging me into this, after all that squabbling yesterday? I thought you didn’t care about me. Does this mean you love me after all? :ehh:

What an amusing thread. “For people who think” indeed. For people who think what? 😃

Of course I do, silly. I love everybody.

If I cared enough about Mormonism to discredit Mormonism in a really smashing and bang-up way, wouldn’t it be a great idea to go to various Mormon forums and start conversations about how “Jews are cursed by God” Muslims are into slavery and murder, and things like this? I could refuse to answer questions, insult people, and generally act like a goofball.

I wouldn’t need to do that, of course. (I think Zerinus does a great job of it all by himself.) In theory wouldn’t that be a good strategic move?

What do you think?

Glad I could help you guys out today Tom Shaikh. Personally, I think you guys are far too kind, gentle and reasonable; but it’s an effective tactic. The Muslims always seem to come out ahead around here in the honor and credibility departments.

Really? Where did I go wrong?
You went wrong when you attempted to present your personal comments on certain Christian tenets as mere facts.
Why does the God of Abraham need to impregnate some poor girl, birth himself through her, kill himself and resurrect himself?
Here again your word choice is rather misleading: God does not need to do anything of the sort, He only chooses and wishes to do so. More, please try having some decency and maturity while criticizing my faith next time. I fail to understand why you need to identify Mary as a poor girl.

Could you please show me a certain religion in the world that denies being the only true path to salvation? Now you are only being sarcastic to politely insult some of my friends here. I am about to start supposing that your aversion to Christianity is based on your personal problems with some Christians.

Now you are approaching the issue from a purely theological viewpoint as a devout Atheist.

I was born into a Muslim family, but I have been a Christian for 15 years now!

It makes no sense to me that you praise Jews who teach a flood that was a mythical one in your opinion and Muslims who teach the tenets they copied from the Old (Noah’s flood, Job’s sufferings) and New Testament (miraculous birth story).

While I suspect Mary is probably about as real as Jesus (not, in other words) I do feel sorry for her. She had a pretty rough time of things.

Ultimately, I admire you for at least making an honest attempt at thinking these things through. It’s more than most on this forum have done. I respect people like you, who make religious choices on conscientious grounds, even if I don’t agree with them.

Mormonism promotes a limited view of universal salvation, though they separate salvation from exaltation, so there are limits. Most liberal protestants do also. For that matter, Muhammad (saw) in the Qur’an made it clear that one didn’t have to be a Muslim to end up in paradise. Probably why he didn’t bother Khadija or Maryam the Copt (two of his wives, who remained non-Muslims their whole lives) to convert. Many Jews who believe in an afterlife have a similar view, that we’re judged on deeds, rather than what mythology we adhere to.

The Roman Catholic Church is really in the minority on that score.

Kindly quote the hadith in which the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said this.
See here.

Finally:Not before this didst thou recite any Book, or inscribe it with thy right hand, for then those who follow falsehood would have doubted. Nay; rather it is signs, clear signs (ayatun bayyinatun) IN THE BREASTS of those who have been given knowledge; and none denies Our signs but the evildoers. They say, ‘Why have signs (ayatun) not been sent down upon him from his Lord?’ Say: 'The signs (al-ayatu) are only with God, and I am only a plain warner.’ What, is it not SUFFICIENT for them that We have sent down upon thee the Book that is recited to them? Surely in that is a mercy, and a reminder to a people who believe. S. 29:48-51

I’ll pay you 1000 dollars if you do a miracle for me today. What say you, Vickie?

I won’t pretend to know many Muslims outside this internet forum, but the ones here seem almost universally pleasant, patient, and they generally represent themselves with dignity and good humor. Catholics (and sadly, Mormons also) can’t say as much, here or elsewhere.
You are relatively new to this forum. FYI:
  1. A couple of muslims have been expelled for extremely violent behavior.
  2. This forum suspends or expels people (especially non-catholics) for slight misbehaviors. So the people you find here (whether muslim, atheist, or whatever) are either new like you or those who learned to act charitable enough.
  3. This forum is understandably a little biased towards catholics. That means they can get away with a bit more (misbehavior) compared to us non-believers.

I haven’t seen anyone indulge in any “violent behavior”. Is that even possible on an internet message board? What did these apocryphal Muslims do, come through the monitor and slap people around?

Makes no difference. They win on the grounds of civility, nine times out of ten.

It’s really pretty shameful to look at a thread like this one and realize that out of all the Catholics, there’s really only one single person (Angelos) who is making an attempt to critically rebut Islam. (And he grew up a Muslim, so maybe he learned his dignity from his own culture, rather than the church.)

The vast majority of the Catholics who criticize Islam are simply throwing insults around, in an effort to evade the real issues. That’s SOP on all the Catholic -vs- Muslim threads.

posted in all capital letters while throwing grave insults at people.

#3. This forum is understandably a little biased towards catholics. That means they can get away with a bit more (misbehavior) compared to us non-believers.

and of course, most of the more civil catholics have already had their share of islamic discussions before you landed here. they are no longer interested. 🙂

That’s unfortunate. I’ve come away from three weeks of reading this board knowing a lot more about Islam than I did before I landed here (I don’t claim to know a whole helluvalot now, so it’s all relative).

I’d love to see Catholic intellectuals deconstruct Islam (or Judaism, or Mormonism) sometime. Maybe it’ll happen someday. I’ll keep hoping. 🙂

I think he meant threats. I am not very interested in Islam, except for understanding the differences between its various varieties. I am more interested in Judaism and off-beat American homegrown religion. (Just in case you didn’t know. 😉 )

I disagree with AgnosTheist about tolerance of misbehavior. I also think we use more peer pressure, rather than tattling to “teacher”

I know that I have asked this multiple times, and no one has ever answered it clearly. Perhaps it is the unanswerable question. I shall try again.

According to most Muslims (Paar’s sect is an exception), Jesus was not crucified on the cross. Someone else was instead. Jesus did not die on the Cross, but God made it appear to everyone that he did.

Now, if intent is important, we should say that God intended people to think that Jesus died. He made some one else look like him and he allowed it all to unfold. In my little understanding of the world, if you mislead someone WITH THE INTENT to mislead, it makes you a lier, at least in that one case. One who misleads a number of people is a lier on a grand scale, and we can safely call that person a deciever.

Please explain to me how the Muslim view of the crucifixion does not make God a lier and deciever. Please.

And, by the way, the answer “You cannot say that about God.” is not an answer.
