For those who are new to the catholic faith, or are already catholic but do not know where to start, this is a page for you.

You can learn about catholicism, from the book of George Brantl, it is an excellent book, and is available online through this digital library.

It is in separate chapters

For those who are not yet catholics, baptism is a wonderful sacrament. It is when you are adopted as the children of God, and forgiven of all your sins, and freed from all punishment. You can make a brand new start. If after that you fall into sin, you can go to sacrament of confession. As often as you like. St. Birgitta go to sacrament of confession daily, St Gemma galgani go to confession thrice a week, and some saints twice a week, but most of the saints, weekly.

It is a wondrous sacrament, it takes your burden off you. Instantly. Your sins are forgiven by God through the priest. The priest act as the minister of God, but it is God himself that absolve you through the priest.

There is also this wonderful sacrament called, the anointing of the sick. It is when you have terrible sickness and nearing death, your senses will be anointed by the priest, and the priest say the words (a bit like this, not exactly) may by this anointing the sins you have committed by the senses be forgiven. And even though we cannot make a confession because our sickness is terrible, we are forgiven of all our sins!

How rich is the sacraments of the church.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

Exodus 20 2-17

I am the LORD your God,
who brought you out
of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself a graven image,
or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth;
you shall not bow down to them or serve them;
for I the LORD your God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children to the third and the fourth
generation of those who hate me,
but showing steadfast love to thousands of those
who love me and keep my commandments.

You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain;
for the LORD will not hold him guiltless
who takes his name in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days you shall labor, and do all your work;
but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God;
in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son,
or your daughter, your manservant,
or your maidservant or your cattle,
or the sojourner who is within your gates;
for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them,
and rested the seventh day;
therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

Honor your father and your mother,
that your days may be long in the land
which the LORD your God gives you.

You shall not kill.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness
against your neighbor.

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house;

you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,
or his manservant, or his maidservant,
or his ox, or his ***,
or anything that is your neighbor’s.

A Traditional Catechetical Formula
  1. I am the LORD your God:
    you shall not have
    strange Gods before me.
  2. You shall not take
    the name of the LORD your God in vain.
  3. Remember to keep holy the LORD’S Day.
  4. Honor your father and your mother.
  5. You shall not kill.
  6. You shall not commit adultery.
  7. You shall not steal.
  8. You shall not bear false witness
    against your neighbor.
  9. You shall not covet
    your neighbor’s wife.
  10. You shall not covet
    your neighbor’s goods
CHAPTER ONE

“YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND”

Jesus summed up man’s duties toward God in this saying: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This immediately echoes the solemn call: “Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God is one LORD.”

God has loved us first. The love of the One God is recalled in the first of the “ten words.” The commandments then make explicit the response of love that man is called to give to his God

CHAPTER TWO

“YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF”

Jesus said to his disciples: “Love one another even as I have loved you.”

In response to the question about the first of the commandments, Jesus says: “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

The apostle St. Paul reminds us of this: “He who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,’ and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”

{Luke10:25} And
behold, a certain expert in the law rose up, testing him and
saying, “Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?”
{10:26} But he said to him: “What is written in the law? How
do you read it?” {10:27} In response, he said: “You shall love
the Lord your God from your whole heart, and from your
whole soul, and from all your strength, and from all your
mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” {10:28} And he said to
him: “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will
live.” {10:29} But since he wanted to justify himself, he said
to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” {10:30} Then Jesus,
taking this up, said: “A certain man descended from
Jerusalem to Jericho, and he happened upon robbers, who
now also plundered him. And inflicting him with wounds,
they went away, leaving him behind, half-alive. {10:31} And
it happened that a certain priest was descending along the
same way. And seeing him, he passed by. {10:32} And
similarly a Levite, when he was near the place, also saw him,
and he passed by. {10:33} But a certain Samaritan, being on
a journey, came near him. And seeing him, he was moved by
mercy. {10:34} And approaching him, he bound up his
wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. And setting him on
his pack animal, he brought him to an inn, and he took care
of him. {10:35} And the next day, he took out two denarii,
and he gave them to the proprietor, and he said: ‘Take care of
him. And whatever extra you will have spent, I will repay to
you at my return.’ {10:36} Which of these three, does it seem
to you, was a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?”
{10:37} Then he said, “The one who acted with mercy
toward him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go, and act similarly.”

SEVEN CAPITAL SINS

Vices can be classified according to the virtues they oppose, or also be linked to the capital sins which Christian experience has distinguished, following St. John Cassian and St. Gregory the Great. They are called “capital” because they engender other sins, other vices. They are pride, avarice, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth or acedia.

The contrary virtues: humility, generosity, kindness, meekness, chastity, temperance, diligence

And of course, after examining your conscience on the two great commandments, 10 commandments, 7 capital sins, you can go to confession, or just say, Jesus have mercy on me a sinner, I will not sin again by the help of your grace

Go to confession frequently (weekly, every fortnight, or monthly)🙂

And you will feel God’s presence, peace and love. It is where God’s mercy is given to you, and God readily forgives any kind of sins, even if you had been the greatest sinner, if we humbly kneel before a priest in a confession and truthfully confess our sins, God forgives, and forgets.

How rich is the sacrament of the church.

The condition of the priest does not matter, whether he be sinful or holy, once he says the word of absolution, you are forgiven of your sins by God, through the priest. But it does matter to choose a holy confessor and holy spiritual directors, because sinful priest can give bad counsel and lead us straight to hell by saying mortal sins are venial or no sin at all and confuse and scandalize us.

Be careful in choosing your confessor and spiritual director

I have 4 confessors at present, but no spiritual director. Because I see none lead a holy and mortified life, and I am afraid of being led astray. You can have more than 1 confessor, but do not change your confessor lightly, choose a priest that lead a good life and stick with him.

You don’t change your doctors unless there is something seriously wrong with him.

That is what St. Dominic Savio said.

May the merciful Jesus bless you.

If you do not know how to pray, you can pray the devotions, such as the rosary and the divine mercy chaplet daily. There is no limit to the number of how many rosary or divine mercy chaplet you can say a day.

St. Padre Pio said 17 rosaries a day,

And in your prayers, always offer it for these three intentions, for the conversion of sinners, perserverance of the just, and relief for souls in purgatory. This is practiced by St. Anthony Mary Claret, a spanish priest who lived in 1800, and he taught it to laypeople as well.

There are many devotions in the catholic church, such as the chaplet of St. Anthony, the Chaplet of St. Michael, the Chaplet of the Holy Spirit, the Chaplet of St. Joseph, and many other devotions to saints, or to Jesus. They can help you in building personal, loving relationship with Jesus, your spouse. your love, your God.

You can go here for other devotions you can say, to help you to get closer to Jesus

Yes, you are the bride of Christ. When you are baptized, you become the bride of Christ. But you can lose the beauty of your soul by falling to a mortal sin. But this beauty can be restored by the sacrament of confession. If you fall to a mortal sin, you are not allowed to receive communion, because there is this sin called the sin of sacrilege. Where a person who is in a state of mortal sin, receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

Eucharist is real Jesus, body, blood, soul, and divinity. You can see, in eucharistic miracles, approved by the holy catholic church, especially in Lanciano, where the eucharist and the consecrated wine turn into the body and blood of Christ. Turn into real flesh and blood of christ. Jesus gives his all to us, his body and blood.
