‘This is worse’: Ellicott City devastated by another flood as heavy rain drenches Baltimore region
Ellicott City was devastated by flash flooding from a massive rainstorm Sunday, just two years after a similar event forced the historic city in Howard County to rebuild much of its Main Street. Mu…
Several communities near my house in Maryland had bad floods yesterday. Hardest hit was Old Ellicott City, which is a “quaint and historic” housing and shopping area that happens to be located in the low-lying flood plain of a river and floods every so many years. It has now had three bad floods in the past 7 years alone (after a long hiatus with no flood, which lulled a lot of people into a false sense of security) and people have died in the last two.
Please pray for the community that it makes the right decisions going forward to prevent further disasters and loss of life. Please also pray for all those affected, particularly those who died or lost loved ones.
Also we can give thanks that the historic Catholic church in this area (which is saying Masses for my husband, I was just at one 2 weeks ago) has come through all the floods for nearly 200 years unscathed because its builders constructed it of granite and on high ground back in 1838.
