The death toll this morning is 108 burned to death in the Victorian wildfires that have been driven by gale force winds that sometimes change direction and come down on them without warning.

Please pray for the souls of the dead, the relief from pain and for the recovery of the seriously burned, and for all their families of the dead and the missing. Towns have burned completely and the fires continue to burn. Please pray for us.

You beat me to it Trishie, these are our worst fires in history; two towns have been totally wiped off the map. I would also ask for prayers for the brave men and women of our volunteer firefighters especially and of the other emergency service workers who are fighting their own exhaustion to keep battling the fires. I would also ask for swift justice of the idiots that deliberately lit some of these blazes.

I believe St Florian is the appropriate saint whose intercession to pray for.

Yes, Jakob, thank you. I wasn’t thinking of the praying for the firefighters and volunteers who have to face the discoveries of the dead, and who fight against such odds in the dought affected Victorian countryside. They very much need our prayer.

In Queensland we have twice the area of Spain, that is, over half of our State, with severe flooding from torrential rains, and Queensland is also a disaster area. It is so ironic.
I grew up in Victoria, and have lots of family in Victoria, some in the fire zones. My family’s okay although the fire is less than a mile away from three of family homes and 17 in the area are dead so far, the area is still closed off
… But so many aren’t okay. I keep feeling I smell smoke, but there isn’t any, it’s just because I keep thinking of all the people in the fires.

:amen:

Prayers for EVERYONE - for the souls of the victims, for their families, for the firefighters and other emergency services, for those who have been injured, and for those still suffering with the floods in Queensland as well.

Wow…I hardly keep up with the news, so I didn’t know about this. Thanks Trishie…

All those involved will be included in my prayers!

Praying for all, thank you for asking, I didn’t know either.:crossrc:

Trishie, I noticed your thread only after I posted a new one. A double thread on the same prayer intention was not my intention! But a double dose of prayers can’t do any harm, can it?

From the Liturgy of the Hours for Monday, Februrary 9:

Prayers and Intercessions

God made an eternal covenant with his people, and continues his gifts to them still. So we give him thanks and turn to him in prayer:
– Lord, give blessings to your people.

Lord, save your people
and bless your inheritance.
– Lord, give blessings to your people.
Unite all who bear the name of Christians,
so that the world may believe in Christ, whom you have sent.
– Lord, give blessings to your people.
Pour out your grace onto our friends and acquaintances,
so that they spread the sweetness of Christ through the world.
– Lord, give blessings to your people.
Show your love for the dying
and let them see your salvation with their own eyes.
– Lord, give blessings to your people.
Show your compassion for the dead
and let them rest together in Christ.
– Lord, give blessings to your people.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Lord, we, your servants, proclaim your greatness.
For our salvation, you looked kindly on the lowliness of the Virgin Mary:
look kindly on us too, and raise us up into the fullness of redemption.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen.

May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm; and may he lead us to eternal life.

St. Florian’s Prayer for Firefighters
Dear God, Through the intercession of our patron, Saint Florian, have mercy on the souls of our comrades who have made the supreme sacrifice in the performance of their duty, and on all who have gone before us after years of faithful discharge of their responsibilities which now rest on ourselves. Give us Grace to prepare each day for our own summons to Thy tribunal of justice. Into Thy hands O Lord, I commend my spirit. Withersoever Thou callest me, I am ready to go. Merciful Father of all men, save me from all bodily harm, if it be Thy will, but above all, help me to be loyal and true, respectful and honorable, obedient and valiant. Thus fortified by virtue, I shall have no fear, for I shall then belong to Thee and shall never be separated from Thee.
Amen.

I cannot believe you are going through this; my prayers are with all of you in these disastrous times!!

Praying to intercessors through Jesus!
Blessed Virgin Mary - Pray for us!
St. Florian - Pray for us!
St. Jude - Pray for us!

My Prayers are with those who are suffering from this disaster.

My Mum and Dad and Sister’s family were all evacuated from Whittlesea on Saturday, but were able to go back home Sunday after the cool change and change of wind direction. Through the grace of God and the courage of the firefighters, they and their homes are OK. Mum and Dad’s place is pretty much in the middle of town. My sis is a bit further out on a property; their house just stinks of smoke. They’ve got another couple staying with them who managed to escape their home with the clothes on their backs and their baby in a nappy; they had no warning, they just piled into the car and WENT. Even left thier wallets and cellphones in the house - which is no longer there. The fire was THAT fast, up to 100km/h (60 mp/h) gusts; they smelt smoke, then embers started raining down, next thing the fire-front was coming over the hill…incredibly scary.

Prayers for the dead and thoughts to the CFA, SES and other emergency workers. Just had a phonecall; looks like our Police unit might be shutting down and us going out to do our bit, even if it’s just traffic control…

Will keep you updated.

Apparently now one the main problems is traffic from STUPID SIGHTSEERS…what are these morbid fools thinking??? Or more obviously they’re not…

The toll is now 135; the worst natural disaster in Australia’s history. The great thing here is the solidarity people are showing, and helping each other to cope.

Continued prayers.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

*August Queen of the Heavens, heavenly sovereign of the Angels, Thou who from the beginning received from God the power and the mission to crush the head of Satan, we humbly beseech Thee to send Your holy Legions, so that under Thy command and through Thy power, they may pursue the demons and combat them everywhere, suppress their boldness, and drive them back into the abyss. Who is like God? O good and tender Mother, Thou will always be our love and hope! O Divine Mother, send Thy Holy Angels to defend me and to drive far away from me the cruel enemy. Holy Angels and Archangels, defend us, guard us. Amen.
