Those on earth (Catholics included) have a habit of saying the deceased are ‘no longer suffering…they’re with God now’. But are we forgetting our Church’s teachings and sadly, perhaps, forgetting so many souls in need?

Let us pray not only for loved ones we knew but also for those countless souls who have been discounted, forgotten, presumed to be already in Heaven - or have no one left on earth to remember them. For these souls and for all the Faithful Departed, in particular those who have no one to pray for them, we say -
Eternal rest grant unto them, Oh, Lord God - and let Perpetual Light shine upon them.

Eternal rest grant unto them, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

In the name of Jesus, we pray, and ask the most Blessed Virgin Mary to pray with us and for us.

What an excellent post! I pray for those in Purgatory every morning when I get up. Especially my mom, relatives and friends, in addition to those who have no one to pray for them. I suspect the latter group is incredibly large. Why? Because I think many are sentenced to Purgatory for far longer periods than their immediate relatives (those who might pray for them) will live. Such that, when those immediate relatives die, there’s no one to remember then in their prayers, etc. I fear there will be no one to pray for me when I die, at least not for every long. Hopefully, those for whom I pray will make it to heaven and pray for me when I die. 🙂

thats why i joined this community to answer my question regarding the offering of masses and prayers for the souls.im very thankful because because all my queries were answered!

Great thread! 🙂 there must be many souls who are not prayed for either because their relatives assume they’re in Heaven, or because their relatives are not Catholic or Orthodox and don’t pray for the dead.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Every morning and every evening I say the pray that our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great especially for my mother and grandmother and the most forgotten souls in Purgatory who have no one to pray for them. I also offer up my Communion and other prayers for them too.

O holy souls,
as one truly devoted to you,
I promise never to forget you
and continually to pray to the Most High for your release.
I beseech you to respond to this offering
which I make to you,
and to obtain for me, from God,
with Whom you are so powerful on behalf of the living,
that I may be free from all dangers of souls and body.
I beg both for myself
and for my relations and benefactors,
friends and enemies,
pardon for our sins,
and the grace of perseverance in good,
whereby we may save our souls.
Obtain for us peace of heart;
assist us in all our actions;
succor us promptly in all our spiritual and temporal needs;
console and defend us in our dangers.
Pray for our Holy Father, the Pope;
for the exaltation of Holy Church;
for peace between nations;
for Christian rulers;
and for tranquility among peoples;
and grant that we may one day all rejoice together in
Paradise.
Amen

Praying very very hard for this beautiful intention everyday for those departed souls who have nobody to pray for them, or who have been forgotten. Also praying for those who mislead bereaved people by telling them all the deceased are “with God”, resulting in many people not praying for the dearly departed.

I pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for these forgotten souls, and offer the prayer of St Gertrude on their behalf.

I’m posting to bump this thread to the front page in hopes others may add their prayers for these souls.

Praying daily for all those in need of God’s love and mercy even though unknown to me.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
