Please pray for the repose of the soul of former Cleveland police chief Ed Kovacic, who died yesterday. He was well known especially for his involvement in investigating the Cleveland Mafia and associated mobsters during the bombing wars of the 1970s. In the film “Kill the Irishman” about the mobsters Danny Greene and Shondor Birns, the composite character of “Joe Manditski” played by Val Kilmer was based on Kovacic. He also contributed interviews or narration to a number of documentaries and articles on Greene and Birns.

Kovacic was also a Catholic who coached CYO Football for his parish for decades, had a large family and by all accounts was a nice man. His funeral will be at the downtown Cathedral, celebrated by Bishop Nelson Perez.

Eternal rest grant unto Chief Ed Kovacic, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death, Amen

Said a Divine Mercy for Chief Kovacic and for a bunch of the mobsters who were involved in those bombings back when I was young.
I hope they all make it into heaven.
Chief Kovacic was a good man but the criminals were interesting combinations of good and evil.
