For the soul of Rob Ford

Rob Ford, the controversial former mayor of Toronto, Canada, died today from a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He was an absolute disaster as a mayor, and scandal seemed to follow him wherever he went. However, he is a sinner as we are, and now I pray that his soul may be cleansed of his sins and of anything that separates him from heaven.

. . . prayed several Hail Mary’s for the repose of Rob Ford’s soul this morning as soon as I heard the news on the radio. I will try to remember him at Mass this morning as well.

A thought:

As the OP says, Rob Ford was a disaster as mayor. And he is/was - like us, a sinner. But the difference is that he had to wear his sins on his sleeve where everyone could see them; the media made sure of that- they feasted on his weakness.

We, OTOH, have the privacy of the confessional where we have the benefit of working these things out with God.

Fortuitous perhaps that he died during Holy Week ? While our Blessed Lord is the true “Lamb innocent and without blemish” and Rob Ford is guilty of the transgressions - as charged , there is something uncomfortably comparable in the way that they were both publicly persecuted. It could very easily be said that the media - in the case of Rob Ford, raised a cry eerily similar to , “Crucify him, crucify him,” and they gave him no peace.

May he now rest in peace.
