Please remember me in your prayers. I’m a very heavy smoker. It’s costing me a fortune and the more I’ve tried to give up in the past, the heavier a smoker I became when I started smoking again. It deeply upsets my wife and kids.

I fear now that my health is being affected. But here’s the thing - even though I fear now for my health, and in the knowledge of all the illnesses smoking causes and the heartbreak to those affected around the smoker by serious illness and death, it makes no difference to me - mentally I’m tortured by the knowledge but physically I just carry on smoking my lungs out.

In the past I’ve tried all sorts to quit to no avail … I feel the only thing left now is prayer.

I read and pray for all those on here, and in light of some of the prayer petitions here, I feel selfish even asking when there are so many more needy casues than mine - but can I humbly ask that you remember me in your prayers.

Thank you all …

Nova,

Will certainly pray for you to stop smoking…I am not a smoker, but understand difficult to quit. Please hang in there and know you have my prayers…

Don’t feel selfish for asking our prayer…in fact it’s a very serious problem that affects your health now and in the future, as you clearly know…and makes your family fearful of losing you… in a miserable way, and before time.

I ask God to help you to overcome the stressors that cause you to smoke, and to resist the triggers…to creat new more healthy structures for those occasions that accompany smoking, maybe drinking coffee, whatever. I ask God to help you not to fiercely focus on the need and the ills of smoking, but to re-educate your brain to think more positively. I ask God to help you overcome this strong addiction, that is meant to ease stress, which it briefly may, only to be followed by a depressive reaction.

St Matthew Talbot who overcame your years of addiction to become a saint, please intercede for this man to overcome his addiction to smoking, and to work to heal his lungs and general health.

Please flood Your blessings on this man and his family, our God. Thank You, Trishie

When you said “I feel the only thing left now is prayer”, it touched my heart…The first thing should always be prayer. Unfortunately, we often use it as a last resort. My prayers from deep within my heart are with you.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Nova … No need to feel selfish in asking.
I’ve been told that it is an addiction & therefore, letting go
of them is extremely difficult (but, NOT impossible).

May the Lord give you the strenght to successfully quit,
and, to stay quit.
I will keep you in my prayers. :gopray2:
Stay focused on our Lord !

Lord Jesus Christ, Have Mercy on Nova.

Praying for your intentions:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God Bless

Dear Lord, help us to stop smoking. May we embrace a life of penance with this little act for your glory. Remind us of your great love for us when we are tempted. Restore in us self-control . Let us in our victory over the sin of gluttony and sloth shine with your light. We beg this of you as the very life you gave us is in jeopardy. Thank you for your Sacred Heart that will answer our prayer. Amen

You have my prayers. I don’t think you’re being selfish. Quitting smoking will require all the strength and help you can get.

I completely understand how tough it is because I quit smoking in February after twenty years. It’s only been five months, so the temptations do flare up from time to time, and I do miss smoking (as stupid as that sounds). Non-smokers don’t understand how smoking becomes a part of your life, almost a friend. That was the toughest part for me - giving up all of the little routines I had developed over the years that centered around my smoking.

I know that everyone is different, but the patch really helped me out a lot in quitting. It eased the withdrawal cravings tremendously. I also made every effort to put myself into new routines so I wouldn’t fall back on the old habit. For me, the toughest part was being in my car and not smoking, so I tried taking a different route to work to break the habit. I rearranged the furniture in my house so I wouldn’t be sitting in the same spot I was before. I even spent the first three days I quit at my parents’ house so I could be completely away from my old smoking environment.

I was so addicted that my doctor put me on Wellbutrin even after I was off the patch. From what I understand, this enhances the uptake of dopamine in the brain which is the same pleasure chemical that nicotine keys into. This may be something you also may want to look into.

If you put on weight, don’t let that discourage you or make you go back to smoking. It’s only temporary, and it will come off again.

I don’t know if any of these suggestions help - everyone is different. If you don’t make it this time, that’s okay too. You have to be ready to quit in your own mind. It sounds like you are, and I wish you the best. Good luck and God bless!

Please Lord, free us from the shackles of addiction so that we may find more faith in you. Dear Lord, please have mercy on all those without the strength to do your will. I pray that we all do not fall into temptation and may instead find joy in the freedom of your holy redemption.

All glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
