Would you change your name when you were ordained to the Holy Priesthood or Consecrated Life? I’m discerning a vocation in the Maronite Church and if it’s God’s will, I’d love to change my name. The idea of changing one’s name after a great follower of Christ seems awe inspiring to me, even though it’s fairly simple. I thought this would be a fun way to discuss something pious.😉 I’ve tossed around a view ideas:

-Fr. Elias Maroun (Elias being Elijah the Prophet and Maroun, the founder of the Maronite Church)

-Fr. Maximos Athanasios (Maximos the Confessor, fought against the Monothelite heresy and Athanasios the Great, who proclaimed Our Lady to be the Theotokos at Ephesus, fought against Nestorianism)

or just Fr. Athanasios (other times spelled Athanasius).

What are your names if you were to be ordained and desired a name change?

I am currently discerning my call to the Priesthood, and with that I have thought that I would very much like to add Marie to my middle name so it would read Thomas Francis-Marie last name. Of course she is the mother of all vocations and I would love to honor her in that way. My inspiration came from St. JoseMaria Escriva and St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort.

Peter Ignatius, both for sts Peter and Ignatius (of Antioch, but Loyola is cool to) and the literal meaning of the name.

That’s neat because part of the name of the Maronite Patriarch is always Peter (Boutros in Arabic) and part of the Syriac and Melkite Patriarch’s names is Ignatius, I believe. And of course all 3of those are in communion with Rome, and Rome with them.👍

Anyone with other name changes?
