Would you change your name when you were ordained to the Holy Priesthood or Consecrated Life? I’m discerning a vocation in the Maronite Church and if it’s God’s will, I’d love to change my name. The idea of changing one’s name after a great follower of Christ seems awe inspiring to me, even though it’s fairly simple. I thought this would be a fun way to discuss something pious.
I’ve tossed around a view ideas:
-Fr. Elias Maroun (Elias being Elijah the Prophet and Maroun, the founder of the Maronite Church)
-Fr. Maximos Athanasios (Maximos the Confessor, fought against the Monothelite heresy and Athanasios the Great, who proclaimed Our Lady to be the Theotokos at Ephesus, fought against Nestorianism)
or just Fr. Athanasios (other times spelled Athanasius).
What are your names if you were to be ordained and desired a name change?
