I purchased two different Monastic Diurnal´s last week. In the Farnborough Diurnal that is from 2011 I noticed that there are alot of errors in the first 200 pages where the first letter in the paragraph is missing. On one page I found 4 of these errors alone.

Are these errors to be found also in the 2004 edition of the Farnborough Monatic Diurnal?

Also, I have read on another website that gives instructions on how to pray with the Monastic Diurnal that the Diurnal is supose come with a card that shows the moveable feasts. My diurnal did not come with this card… so my question for those of you who have the 2011 edition of this diurnal is…Did your diurnal also not have the card?

Lastly, can anyone break down the structure for each of the hours? Just a basic outline of how the Monastic Diurnal is to be prayed.

Thanks and God bless

I haven’t taken the plunge regarding the Monastic Diurnal so I will be curious to see what replies you get. I found a noted English Diurnal for sale on an Orthodox Benedictine Monestary’s website that I would enjoy getting at some point but I need to get further down the road before I make the switch from praying the LoTH to the Diurnal.

Peace,

The Saints Will Arise blog is geared to the Farnborough edition of the Monastic Diurnal. Most, if not all, of your questions about praying the hours can be found at that blog.

I have already visited this site but I thank you for posting it. 🙂

I was looking to see if someone hree on CAF could just give me a bare bones outline of how each hour is prayed. Something alittle bit more simply explained for dummies such as myself. 😛

God bless

My copy of the Monastic Diurnal came with a little card that showed the general outline of the hours.

You could also join the TradBen group on yahoo an look in the files section, there is lots of info there (both the group and the files section)…

👍

It’s the same folks from the Saints will Arise.

My copy of the Diurnal did not come with this card. I think I will end up having to write to St. Michael´s press and ask if they can send it to me once I show proof that I have purchased the diurnal through another retailer.

Thanks for the heads up on the TradBen group…I will look into it.

God bless

:thumbsup:Thanks for posting this link! I recently purchased this diurnal and I have been a bit lost, myself.

For those looking for a quick guide to the shape of the hours, Saints Will Arise blog, has reference sheets giving page numbers for each hour by day of the week - its now on the right hand sidebar underneath the Ordo.

But do take the time to read through the ‘how to say the Office’ guide - this is liturgy and deserves to be taken seriously!
