So you refuse to try? There is nothing impossible about trying to do something. Pity you are a self-defeatist. How do you expect to get to Heaven, being so self-defeating? God bless you.
It is not that I refuse to try. I try and keep failing. Yes, I know, keep getting up and going to confession. But I worry that one day I’ll be dead between confessions. Or maybe I committed the sin of omission and down elevator…

Seriously, I love you. I so needed to read this. I have been struggling for over a year now with mental illness and not feeling God. I’ve ALWAYS felt him, even in rebellious teen years. And now? Poof, gone. I truly needed to see this and I thank you so very much.
Yes, you cannot rely on feelings. At the beginning, yes, but your faith should mature and the moment the training wheels come off of your faith than that is the time you know that God wants your faith to go through a maturing process. It’s not an easy process. Talk about growing pains.

Dear BobCatholic,

The Saints fell, but they kept getting up and starting all over again. That is all any of us can do. Don’t get discouraged by your repetitious falling, but rather be very humble, do not trust in yourself, and put all of your trust in God and in His saving help. Remember, He gives each one of us sufficient grace to be saved, so we needn’t fear any lack of grace from Him. We can fear, however, offending our Lord. God bless you.

God’s grace is fragile, one mortal sin destroys it.

I feel like I’m in a spiritual gunfight with the devil, and my jacket (God’s grace) is made of glass and not bulletproof material (grace of final perseverence). Yes, there is plenty of glass jackets around (God’s grace)…

But we have traditional priests to hear our Confessions, and we have sufficient grace to be saved. Don’t you know what sufficient means? We just need to do our part and cooperate with the graces God gives us, and we need to confess our sins to a valid priest when we fall. God bless you.

Yes, there is sufficient grace - sufficient to get our sins forgiven now. And sufficient to keep getting forgiven.

Is there sufficient grace for final perseverance? The answer is no since we don’t believe in “once saved always saved”

I must really be a saint then, because most times I feel extremely unworthy. And it’s the most frightening feeling.

We both know that we need to pray every day for final perseverance if we wish to obtain it. If we wish to be neglectful and lazy and not ask for it every day, then we don’t really want to get to Heaven badly enough, now do we. But if we pray for final perseverance every day, living a good Christian life, then we needn’t worry about Hell, now do we? We only need to worry about Hell if we do not love God and are so filled with self-love that we put our love of pleasure and self above our love for Him and His laws. God bless you.

Dear BobCatholic,

I highly recommend that you pray every day for the following: To receive many actual graces, and to say your Act of Contrition under the influence of actual grace and with perfect contrition. We can be assured that God will never deny you any spiritual favor or grace that you ask of Him–He will never deny you a spiritual grace that you need for your salvation–so please make sure that there is nothing within you to resist His graces. God bless you.

Dear BobCatholic,

Scared about your salvation? Mary is your sure hope. Here are some very comforting words spoken by God the Father to St. Catherine of Sienna, taken from The Dialogue of St. Catherine of Sienna.

“I want you to know that I permitted this to happen to rescue him from the sentence of eternal damnation under which he stood, so that he might have life through his own blood in the blood of my Truth, my only-begotten Son. For I had not forgotten the reverence and love he had for Mary, my only-begotten Son’s most gentle mother. For my goodness, in deference to the Word, has decreed that anyone at all, just or sinner, who holds her in due reverence will never be snatched or devoured by the infernal demon. She is like a bait set out by my goodness to catch my creatures. So it was in mercy that I did this.”

If I knew I was going to hell, why bother praying and doing anything? I’d get lazy. I’d give up because I’m doomed. Nothing I did mattered. I’m forever broken hearted because I was rejected by God.

If I knew I was going to heaven, I’d be like "OK, now I can kick it up a notch. I’ll aim for the next higher level of heaven (since there are 9 levels right? Paul went to the 7th heaven) - by doing more good deeds, and trying to improve even further.

We can be assured? Can I get a citation for that? (Bible, Catechism, magisterial teaching)

I want to get closer to Mama Mary, but the Rosary is difficult for me. I can’t meditate because I’m trying to make sure I do the prayers right.

I heard a traditional priest say pretty much exactly this in his sermon. If you are truly interested, I can find his sermon (which is online) so you can listen to it. Are you interested?

Try to pray your Rosary devoutly and as best as you can every day, mediating as best as you can on each mystery. And say Hail Marys and ejaculations to Mary throughout your day. Also, make a shrine in her honor and show her as much honor and devotion that you can. Try to imitate her virtues and ask her to help you. And have 100% confidence in her. Please read The Glories of Mary, by St. Alphonsus de Liguori; if anyone should read this book,* you *should, BobCatholic. Believe me! Repeat these ejaculations over and over again and mean them: Sweet heart of Mary, be my salvation! My Mother, my hope! Sacred Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in Thee!

God bless you.

But the hope has to be in something.

I can’t hope for something that is contrary to God’s will.

If God rejects someone, no amount of hope will get them into heaven. If it is God’s will to send someone to hell, hope won’t override that.

Are you thinking that God is presently willing for you to go to Hell? Such a thought is Calvinistic and is not even Catholic. (Why, you should change your username to BobCalvinist!🙂 God only wills Hell for us at the point of our death and only when we are unrepentant with mortal sin on our souls. Until you take your last breath and are unrepentant and with mortal sin on your soul with your last breath, God will not will Hell for you. You can only go to Hell by your own willing and doing–not by God’s willing and doing, as He gives you sufficient grace all throughout your life for your salvation. The solution to your problem is quite simple, though I don’t think you can see this: You MUST read The Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus de Liguori and put your hope in our most powerful Mother and Queen, who will not allow any of her clients to perish in Hell. I tell you that you MUST read this book if you wish to break out of this morbid fear of Hell that you have. It is good to fear Hell and very good to fear offending God, but it is not good to feel hopeless like you do. You do your part and let God do His, and don’t give into worry. Worry is useless, as Padre Pio says. God will not condemn to Hell any person who is not deserving of it, because He is all-good and all-fair. This is for certain. But He will allow some people to go to Heaven who were more deserving of Hell because of His great mercy and Precious Blood and because of His Mother’s powerful intercession. Please do yourself the great favor–the favor of a lifetime–and read The Glories of Mary, okay? The book is truly life changing–it has helped me not to fear like you are fearing. Please tell me that you will obtain this book and read it. God bless you.

I hope to be a mega millions lottery winner. If it is not God’s will, should I even bother to buy a mega millions lottery ticket? Should I even bother to hope?

If God sees that I have failed too many times and my future is hell, because I omitted something, or did not do something right, then what hope is there?

Many people glide into hell, without actually making the choice. Sins of Omission are very deadly!

Did God give me the grace of final perseverance? The answer is no.

I have to worry, I am the weakest part of the chain.

If God is all fair, why did he hold us responsible for the sins of Adam and Eve? You’ll notice we don’t live in the Garden of Eden. They did the crime, let them do the time. Why are we not in the Garden of Eden?

I’m afraid that you are so wrong about everything that I can not even begin to help you with words. All I can do now is pray for you and hope that you change your self-defeating way of thinking. I hope that one day you can see how faulty your reasoning is. I hope and pray that you find hope in Mary. We can not save ourselves, BobCatholic; we need our Lord and our Lady, and we need to trust in them with 100% confidence. Please do so. God bless you.
