To all those in positions of leadership in the Roman Catholic church who also happen to be homosexual, we offer our commiseration and sorrow that once again you have been forced to hear your sexuality, an element intrinsic to your humanity, described as an objective disorder…
Our experience in the pews suggests that homosexuality is low on the list of indicators of immaturity. We in the pews see the greatest signs of immaturity, for instance, among priests who seem to dislike dealing with their own parishioners; who have an undue fascination with wearing peculiar garb as a symbol of office; who are unable to engage in collegial efforts; who believe that leadership and authority comprise issuing dictates; who hold the conviction that Christianity is a religion of rules and rubrics, not a community of right relationships…

:ehh:

They remind me of a committee meeting that goes on forever.

Is this surprising to come from the NCR?

I’m unfamiliar with them but geez, to have Catholic attached to it and have it widely read is a serious problem for the Church.

No wonder there’s such a division within the Church and so many Catholics go to communion without going to confession. With writings like this they really don’t see where they’ve sinned.

I offer my “commiseration and sorrow” to all the lost souls in the pews that have been affected by false teaching and bad example.

“an undue fascination with wearing peculiar garb as a sign of their office”?

That’s called dressing in clerical garb. It also is wearing vestments to celebrate Mass, perform Benediction, etc.

People(myself included) LOVE the fact that Priests wear clericals and vestments!

Well, they’ve shown their true colors anyway. I wonder if this editorial might prompt our pastor to cancel his subscription. This is the kind of Catholic “trash” we get in our parish library…

Very revealing.

I wonder how they’re still allowed to use the word “catholic” in their title? Don’t bishops regulate that?

If he has a subscription then he expects this kind of material. He’s not going to cancel. What you should do is find every book in that library that is outside of Magisterial teaching and ask that it be removed (citing all relevant references).
