I don’t care, may God forgive me, but I want to force an answer of out of God about exactly
just what my life means and what my vocation is. I feel he has somehow indirectly kept me at the broke single joke level I have been at since a teenager and I want change. Here is my plan to force an answer out of God about my life:
  1. Stay in the family business for six months. If by September I am not making
at least $1000 a week, and able discipline myself, or able to put
any money away, I will leave in September 2014 to become a trucker and see the world at 33.
  2. Do Trucking for six months, and see how I like it.
  3. March 2015, go into the seminary. When asked why I want to be a priest, I will
say "Because I feel God has left me hanging for 34 years with no clear direction, so
I want to force God to give me an answer by attempting to study for the priesthood. If I am
not selected, that may be an indication by God I am to remain single.
  4. As for women, they are my chief source of emotional pain and high stress, and I can’t deal with them anymore. Maybe I will try Catholic Dating Site if I have a lot of money in 2016 if I am not in the seminary. It seems like a no-brainer, try a dating site. I am not going to waste my life on platonic relationships with braniac girls at church who have no desire to marry.

Why have you made three threads about the same thing in a space of 15 minutes?

Giving your current job six months to improve sounds reasonable.

But if you make the $1,000 a week that you are aiming for, yet don’t save money, why would that be a reason to leave and become a trucker?
  1. Do Trucking for six months, and see how I like it.
That’s reasonable.

"3. March 2015, go into the seminary. When asked why I want to be a priest, I will

That sounds terrible.

“4. As for women, they are my chief source of emotional pain and high stress, and I can’t deal with them anymore.”

But you’re not dealing much with women, are you?

"Maybe I will try Catholic Dating Site if I have a lot of money in 2016 if I am not in the seminary.

Go ahead, even if your income is modest. But don’t be sinking loads of money into travelling to meet women you’ve never even had coffee with in real life.

“It seems like a no-brainer, try a dating site. I am not going to waste my life on platonic relationships with braniac girls at church who have no desire to marry.”

Or who have no desire to marry you.

Bear in mind that seminary is very intellectually challenging and if you don’t feel on par with these “brainiac girls at church,” it’s unlikely that you are seminary material. A friend of ours is a priest, and he spent huge amounts of time just meeting his philosophy requirements before he was even allowed to start seminary.

You might want to stop and think for a (long) while about the phrase “force God.”

We can’t “force God” to do anything. We are like the tail, and he is like the head.

You are going to force God? Let us know how that works out for you.

You also might want consider reading the Book of Job. It’s very short, I think under 10 pages. It covers some of the reasons why people suffer as well as God’s response. He asks Job, in so many words, if he was there when God created the universe and how Job came to be so arrogant as to try to tell God what to do.

In Job’s case, he suffers tremendously, as a test. God had commended Job, different times, on living a good life. Satan answers that it was only because Job was blessed. God agrees to test Job, see if it really was because he was blessed or not. So, God sends these tests Job’s way.

In the end, Job questions this, and God never does tell him even the reason for the suffering. It has reason, but we’re just not always aware of the reason, and to take this on faith, no easy thing, but still. With God, all things are possible.

I don’t know if I’d blame God for what goes wrong in our lives, because often times, we could do more to make our lives better, as well.

I posted on another of your threads.

You may have to ‘scratch’ the seminary idea. Your reasons are not right.
The priesthood isn’t an escape for those who are angry with the way their lives are going.
It is a calling from God.
Your psychological balance is askew with your frustration, low self-esteem, and resentment, and this would be quickly spotted. And a priest can’t be angry at one half of the human race. Nor could he escape women who are an essential part of a priest’s responsibility.

It mightn’t be a bad idea to try other work, if it’s also possible to return to the family business if that doesn’t work out.

However you will take your problems with you if you see them as existing outside yourself, in other people, eg, women.
It is anyone’s free choice including ‘brarniac girls’ whether they marry and if they marry… They may choose to marry later, but have a right to choose with whom, and when.

Your annoyance towards them can perpetuate a failure to look at self, not in a crushing way, but in a wholesome way. Your reaction to despise yourself, as reflected in that other post, isn’t a healthy response. It leaves what the things you may need to work on to become more healthy in your attitudes towards yourself and others.

Hi 32 year old,

I have read all of your other posts on your other threads, so I will just respond here.

I am so very sorry for your struggles, and I am so sorry that you feel so very down on yourself.

Dear one, do you feel like you can go and talk to your parish priest about how you are feeling?

If you feel like you don’t have enough income, can you get a second, part-time job? I know in this economy that this may be difficult, but it may make you feel better to try and put some extra money away. If you don’t think that is possible, can you pick up some extra hours at your family’s business? I am suggesting these things for you, so that you don’t feel so powerless.

And, like the others have said, I wouldn’t try to “force” God to do anything. Why not just talk to Him instead, and tell Him all about your feelings? He can handle them. He knows everything about us, anyway.

I am sorry about your frustration too, regarding meeting any young ladies. If I were you, I would just pull back and take your cues from their behavior and see how they respond to you, the next time that you meet them. In other words, watch how they respond to you. Do they seem interested when you talk to them?

I will say some prayers for you, so that you may find peace and guidance from Our Dear Lord.

You say you are going to Force God to give you an answer. That reminded me of an Irish Joke I heard.

This guy wanted a new push bike, so he went along to the Church and prayed that he would get a bike, then he thought this strategy might not work, so he told God that he wanted a new bike, thinking again he once again thought this strategy might not work,
so he got up from the pew went over to the Statue of Our Lady which he took down from the stand and placed it under the seats, and told God if he wanted to see His mother again he better get that bike.

I agree with this

I would like to add that I STRONGLY suggest that you find a therapist and work through a lot of these issues.

You could start with a priest, but most priests can mainly deal with your spiritual issues. You need help dealing with your emotional issues–your self-esteem is abysmally low, and your attitude towards others and the world in general is extremely negative.

All this can be fixed, but you will need to work through this with a really good therapist and I do mean WORK–this isn’t something that can be fixed in a few “buck up and have faith” sessions of life-coaching. You need therapy, not just coaching or counselling. You need to learn the techniques to help you correct years of negative, self-abasing, judgmental thinking. Yes, there are techniques you can use to correct your thinking, so be encouraed–you can learn these techniques and get better!

I’ll be brutally honest–with your bitter condescending attitudes towards women, NO woman will ever be interested in you, unless you really do start making more money. Then you will attract women who are primarily interested in financial stability and security (you do realize that the biggest need any woman has is “security,” don’t you?). And that’s not good–you will not be happy married to someone who is interested more in your money than you.

So perhaps that’s one reason why God has allowed you to languish in a low-paying job–to protect you from designing women. Be grateful to God. It is worse to be married to a woman who doesn’t love you than to not have a woman at all.

As for the seminary idea, you won’t get through the door. You aren’t called. You aren’t even discerning a call. The director of the seminary will see that, and you won’t be allowed to attend.

I see nothing wrong with trying a switch of careers to trucking, but I would wait until you have gone through therapy because trucking will further isolate you from people who can help you. Trucking is extremely lonely, even with CB radios, cell phones, etc. You really don’t need more loneliness right now.

Good luck to you and godspeed. You will get better.
