The opinion that weekly communion without weekly confession is “decadent” can certainly be found within Catholicism, but that doesn’t meet that the Catholic church teaches the same.
I am not at fault in my deep seated understanding that if I do not go to confession (sorry, its reconciliation now) I should not go up for communion. That is what I was taught by the church.

I do remember when there was no parking at church on Saturdays, because of confessions.
We all deserve God’s mercy. Going to church to confess, and then being turned away is horrific. You are going in to talk to God, wanting that reconciliation, then turned away, as if by God Himself. It affects one’s soul.

I used to think only people of the old school did this, but as it turns out the Orthodox regard the Western practice of communion without confession a “decadent” practice.

This isn’t a universal position on the Orthodox side. I have relatives who are converts to Orthodoxy (from Protestantism) and at their parish you are only expected to confess once a month or so unless you have serious sin on your conscience. It depends on the jurisdiction. Of course, across the board in Orthodoxy, fasting from midnight the night before is an absolute must.

Oh, absolutely! Pope Francis has, especially, been an outstanding example in this area. .
Pope St. John Paul II as well, he confessed at least weekly.

It kinda sets the tone for those of us who live less holy lives that he did…
