I went to confession today and I think I forgot to mention that I lied various times (maybe like 20 or less) in the past 3 weeks. They weren’t big or serious lies, mostle white lies, but a lie is a lie.

I kept trying to tell myself not to forget and I think I forgot because I can’t recall mentioning it.

So, I’m not sure if I should take communion.

When I went to confession the first time after like 10 years, I was concerned about past sins I might not remember, but the priest told me that all was forgiven, however, if I did remember a past sin, I should go and confess it.

So, I forgot at the time, but now I remeber and I’m stuck.

I really wanted to go to Communion on Friday as well to start the devotion to the Sacred Heart. But now I’m not sure what to do.

If you honestly forgot the sin…it is forgiven. If you feel compelled to share it with the priest next time you go to confession, then go ahead and do it…however, you are absolved and are able to receive communion.

You are worry too much. If you accidently forget any sin, mortal or venial, you are still forgiven. If you didn’t confess a mortal sin on purpose then you should not receive. In your case you forgot so it is not necessary to abstain from communion because you truely made an attempt but just forgot. If the sin which you forgot is mortal you should confess it the next time you go to confession, if it is venial don’t worry about it. Venial sins are forgiven during the penitential rite during mass, by using holy water to bless yourself, and by receiving communion. Hope this helped.

Thank You Marty and Dumspirospero for that clarification. I feel much relieved. I do think I worry too much sometimes and I honestly forgot at the time. Thank you again.
