Hi!

I recently went to confession and confessed a mortal sin. I wasn’t sure how many times I had committed it, so I said 3, but after confession I remembered doing it more than three times. Will I need to mention it the next time I go to confession?

If you were sincerely sorry and honestly didnt remember it’s all past and forgiven.

Thank you for the reassurance, but typically when you remember a mortal sin after confession, it is absolved, so long as you mention it the next time you are at confession. I needed to know if I need to mention it next time.

I would mention it next time, although in the future if you don’t know just make it clear you are giving an approximation. Like… “around x times,” or “at least x but less than y”, etc.

Before asking others, consider the unlimited, unconditional nature of the mercy of God, and see how that answers your question.

You weren’t intentionally hiding sin.

Be at peace and glory in His mercy.
