Just a quick question…is forgetting to do your penance a mortal sin? I know it doesn’t invalidate the confession, but is forgetting to say it until 2 days later(when it was specified that it should be ‘today’) itself a mortal sin? Thanks.

By definition, forgetting is involuntary. Nothing involuntary can be a sin. Do your penance as soon as you remember and be at peace. Maybe next time you could make a quick note to remind yourself.

If my penance is prayers, I always try to say them right in the Church, before the Blessed Sacrament if I can, so that way I don’t forget to do it. 🙂

In this case, you would not have done anything sinful, so don’t worry.

Nope. But next time, do your penance as soon as you come back into the Church from the Confessional - that way, there is no chance of forgetting to do it. 🙂
