Hi I have recently decided I want to become a Christian and at this stage most likely Catholic although I have committed some moral sins in the past such as masturbation and want forgiveness. The thing is I know which sins I’ve committed but not how, when, or how often. How can I ask for forgiveness and what happens if we forget to ask for forgiveness

You won’t forget because you’ve stated it here.
If you have not been Baptized, the Baptism will take care of past sins.
If you have already been Baptised, you make the best confession you are able to. God doesn’t punish us so harshly when we HONESTLY forget.
Hiding sins, is another matter.
You priest is well versed in how to run his confessional, LOL
He will guide you,
Welcome home.

You’ll have to confess all your mortal sins since baptism and around how many times you’ve committed them. Ask the priest to book a time to confess because it’ll probably take a while. If you haven’t been baptised that’s great all your past sins will be washed away at baptism and you won’t have to worry about it.

Call or email your nearest Catholic churches, to enrol in RCIA classes. They will teach you all the sacraments and guide you through the process of becoming Catholic. At Easter you get confirmed and baptised if you have not already. If you still have questions after that then you can ask here.
