How accountable are we for all the times we’ve had promptings to do small charitable works and haven’t acted upon most ? Made excuses and put obstacles in the way in our heads.
For example to go and visit someone who we know is lonely,to make small talk to a stranger who looks sad ,offer to give a hand etc
(Lent is a brilliant time to act on small promptings 🙂 )

These would be sins of omission. From the Catholic Encyclopedia, “According to St. Thomas Aquinas, the sin of omission, consisting as it does in leaving out a good, is less grievous than a sin of commission, which involves a positive taking up with evil.” This suggests to me that most of these, like the examples you mentioned, would be venial sins. Maybe bring it up in a general way during your next confession, as you did in your question above, and see what your confessor says. I think many of us, myself included, have allowed ourselves to become deadened to these promptings, dismissing them almost as soon as they arrive. Since you are aware of these promptings to do good little charitable works, act on them the next time one occurs to you 🙂.
