So I am reading the book ‘Forgive Me, Father’ and it is quite disturbing.

Has anyone heard of the case against Father Gerald Robinson and the murder of a nun, Sister Margaret Ann Pahl, in the sacristy of a hospital chapel?

This thread is not to attack the catholic church in ANY way so please, do not take it as an opportunity to do so.

I do find it alarming the accusations from both nuns and parishaners regarding this abuse and the information of how the diocese handled it.

Just looking to see if I can get and inside look at what others think. It is quite the book and horrible at the same time. The things that some of these people have gone through is HORRENDOUS.

Again, not by the hand of the Catholic Church itself but at the hand of some of its supposed leaders… *shudder…

Not sure why you posted this if not to discredit the Catholic Church. 🤷

It’s a shame that things like that have happened, but the Catholic Church is made of humans, meaning we are capable of making big mistakes at times. The purpose of the Church isn’t to be a hall for Saints, but a hospital for sinners.

Just because I am what you would refer to as ‘protestant’ doesn’t mean I was looking to discredit the Catholic Church… I think I made it pretty clear not to implicate the Church in this post and tried to make sure that everyone knew it.

I am more looking for those who know about the case. I don’t want to take the books word for it. BUT the stories I find on the web seem to cooberate it…

why is this posted on this forum?
what has this to do with a non-Catholic religion?
if you are discussing an item that has been reported in the news media please do it on the proper forum and provide a link according to forum rules. otherwise you are breaking a forum rule by publishing libelous information about a priest identified by name, which can also become the sin of detraction it that is the intent of the post.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa…

No harm was meant by this. Geez, if it is against the rules then by all means moderators, delete it. I only posted it here because this is where I hang out, I figure that since I am non-catholic I should stick here and leave the rest of the forums for the catholics since this is their forum.

I said the case was against him, not that he did it. I was just curious if anyone had read it or knew anything about it. Nothing evil was meant by it at all.

Please forgive me if I offended anyone by this…

Calm down.

Neither am I. Why the nit picking? If it should be moved, let it moved. If the story is true then let it be known. If no one knows of this book then it will die. If it is a false accusation demonstrate its falsehood.

There does need to be a link however.

Yeah…

I could have told you this thread wasn’t going to work out well.

What do you expect us to say? “Oh, well it was not actually that bad, and people exaggerated a lot!”?

No! Sinners sin. We will be the first to tell you that.

But, don’t worry, I’m sure you provided more than ample ammunition for some non-Catholic who was looking for some dirt on priestly behavior and the internally flawed system that everyone thinks we have in the priesthood.

Sinners sin.

I don’t understand, is this particular murder worse than any other murder because it may (or may not have) been committed by a priest, or because the victim was a nun? What is it about this particular murder that drew your attention from any other murder? Was it because it was possibly committed by a Catholic Priest? 🤷

Any murder is,* disturbing, horrible, horrendous* and should cause one to shudder and so I am not surprised from your feelings that you say you are describing after having read this book.

God bless

True, there are some implications though that lead to more than just the murder. And I do know that it could easily be about a protestant leader. I guess I am coming to grips that even the Church’s leadership (on either side) can be imperfect… It is a hard pill to swallow…

I am totally obsessed with Father Gerald Robinson! I watched every minute of his trial on Court TV and re-ran it over and over again. It was my first window into the nuts and bolts of the Roman Catholic Church and I’ve been obsessed with Catholism ever since.
