As a man who is going into the Catholic Church, what is the “best” RCC Bible? I picked up a RSV Catholic Edition from Ignatius Press, and so far I like it, any other suggestions?
Hi Glorfindel,
I’m pretty new to all of this too, but I felt it the decent thing just to say Hello and help you shift the tunbleweed lol.
God Bless!
Hi Brian! I am fond of the RSV actually, in regard to the Navarre, can you get it as one volume? I ask because I used to see it on Amazon, and you would see, the Gospels, Acts, Paul’s Epistles, as seperate volumes I just wondered if they had i under one cover now? I hear the note are very good!I have many Bible versions - but almost all Protestant. As I’ve started getting serious about Catholicism, I purchased the NAB - but its a little hard to get used to.
I’ve just starting reading the Navarre Study Bible (it uses the Revised Standard Version text, supplemented by excellent commentary).
Blessings,
Brian
NT yes, but not all of the scriptures. You can get the NT in one volume (the commentary is more appreviated) or in a set of 11 indiviudal volumes. I did the latter so I could read them on the train (one at a time) (though I also own the one volume NT version for another home). The Pentateuch (first 5 books of Moses) comes as a single volume. There are then separate volumes for Joshou-Kings; Chronicles-Maccabees, The Psalms (and song of solomon), the Wisdom Books, the Major Prophets and finally, the Minor Prophets.Hi Brian! I prefer the RSV-CE that you got… but mine is the Reader’s Edition from Oxford… and I’m loving it! I think the RSV-CE is the best translation, period… but everyone has different preferences… the NAB is like the Protestant’s NIV… but it’s used in liturgy and is really good in that context IMHO, just not personal study…As a man who is going into the Catholic Church, what is the “best” RCC Bible? The Douay-Rheims is an excellent Bible. I would recommend this edition before any else.As a man who is going into the Catholic Church, what is the “best” RCC Bible? I picked up a RSV Catholic Edition from Ignatius Press, and so far I like it, any other suggestions?
