Was non-practicing Catholic at 12yrs. old fell into drug and alcohol addiction by 18 yrs. old fathered and then procured funds for abortion and fathered another baby and had baby adopted …out of wedlock.Question… can I still be Catholic?I have confessed and eachday is like lving nightmare I really have tried hard since “coming back” to church. However, I’ve read that I should not be allowed back into church is this true?Felt Jesus calling me about 10 years ago and it really has been difficult but trying very hard.I’m 47 yrs. old now.Thank You

The Church and Jesus is ready, willing and more than able to welcome you Home.Divine Mercy is for those of us who are the least deserving of His mercy. Please talk with a Priest.May our Heavenly Father show His Love for You.

Yes, Jesus is always welcoming us just like He welcomed Peter who denied Him publicly. No sin or shortcoming from our part is too big for Jesus - He already pain for it in full. Just approach a priest and ask him to help you - I will (am) praying for you right now.

j1s2a3,
  1. You say you were a non-practicing Catholic at 12 yrs old. So I assume that you were baptized Catholic. That made you a Catholic then, you are still a Catholic now, and you will always be a Catholic. You are just a sinful Catholic (aren’t we all?).
  2. God will always forgive you if you are sorry. You say you have been to Confession, so please know that God has forgiven you! It sounds like you have not forgiven yourself, though. Please talk to a priest, and ask him to help you.
  3. I don’t know where you read that you should not be allowed back into church, but that is completely wrong. Church is a place for sinners. Jesus ate meals with the sinners. He came to die for the sinners. He came for you! and me! Not only are you allowed to come back into the church, you are welcome in the Church!
Luke 15:3-10
"3 So he told them this parable: 4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.' 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.** 8 "Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, **Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.’ 10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

(bold emphasis is mine)

The sins you committed are not even close to the sins committed by the people that crucified Jesus, and he was praying for the father to forgive them while they were doing it!

“Forgive them Father, they know not what they do!”

Jesus is always willing to forgive you. There is no sin too big. Also Jesus never stopped loving you even when you were offending him deeply. He never will stop loving you.

Did you know there is a Saint that used to be a satanic priest? Jesus forgave him of his sins and that man is now with him in heaven.

I would talk to a priest. Welcome home.👍

God bless you.

j1s2a3,

2272 Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,"77 "by the very commission of the offense,"78 and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law.79 The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.

Yes, but even so, your Confession brought forgiveness for that sin!!! Procuring an abortion does not excommunicate a person irreversibly. Excommunication means that the person can no longer receive the sacraments, a consequence due to the seriousness of the sin – but upon Confession the person is restored to the Church.

Yes, one must have full knowledge for a sin to be mortal.
THANK FATHER ALMIGHTY I CAN TAKE JESUS BREAD AND WINE!!!
Alleluia!
j1s2a3, Welcome back to the Church! Easter Sunday will be especially meaningful for you! God’s Blessings!

Of course you are still a Catholic!
I have confessed and eachday is like lving nightmare I really have tried hard since “coming back” to church.
You might want to make an appointment to talk with your priest more in-depth. You are having trouble forgiving yourself, but you can learn to accept that Christ has forgiven you through counseling.

Since you are also a post-abortive father, I suggest you look for a healing retreat to make peace with the abortion. You can look online for Project Rachel and Rachel’s Vineyard. Also, call a local Crisis Pregnancy Center to see if they can refer you to local abortion healing counseling.
However, I’ve read that I should not be allowed back into church is this true?
I don’t know where you read this. No, it is not true.

Jesus loves you and he wants you to be close to him. Go see your priest.

I was taught (or perhaps Misheard!) that receiving Communion after committing a mortal sin would lead you to no forgiveness by God. And, you would go to Hell…And, this really affected me. God is forgiving. And, he is just. And, I realize that I may have totally misheard what my teacher said.
Mortal sins are the “worst sins”, but with Penance and reconciliation He is willing to forgive. He loves us.
