Forgiveness for Non-Catholics.

Hello all! I have a quick question. I begin RCIA in 2 weeks. I was raised in a Protestant (Pentecostal) background. I was baptized. (In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). However, our denomincation would throw in “and into the Name of Jesus” at the end of the F, S, and HS. Is this a legitimate baptism? Also, since I do not have access to the Sacraments: Eucharist, and Confession, how do I find forgiveness for sins committed in the meantime? Thanks so much.

your diocese should have the answer on the validity of baptism in your particular Pentecostal denomination, and the RCIA director or pastor should ascertain that in the beginning of your formation. Not all Pentecostal baptisms are valid so they will most definitely look into it. What happens here is that Pentecostals receive a conditional baptism privately before Easter, so make sure you discuss this with the pastor or RCIA director.

During your preparation you will also be prepared for the sacrament of confession and be offered the opportunity at the appropriate time. If you are baptised through RCIA of course all sin is remittted and you will not confess until such time after baptism as becomes necessary to be absolved and restored to grace.

you may also discuss with the priest at any time during your preparation your concern and contrition you may feel now about any sins in your past, in fact, that should be part of the process.
