From what I understand, yes, there is a nuance.
Forgiveness of sins by some definitions can be defined as to incorporate remittance or it can be more narrowly tailored to deal with the emotional level of forgiveness only.
Example time: say I am being neglectful or mischievious or whatever and I break your car window. You can forgive me, either totally or just on the emotial level. If you forgive me on the emotional count alone, you would still be expecting remittance - a punishment/ restitution to cover the debt to fix the sin. That could be money, chores, or whatever.
Sin draws us further from God. The sacrament of Confession will lead to forgiveness and can change our direction away from the wages of sin, but the attachments to the world as a result of sin may remain. These attachments might properly be seen as our punishment, and our purgatory could be seen as a remittance period where we are purged of our many attachments for preparation into heaven.
