I know if one forgets a sin they are still forgiven. However, I was wondering whether they may still receive the Eucharist.

I forgot to confess a doubtful sin. I feel I may have lied when selling gas to a customer. She asked “Are you ready?” I said “Yep!” But I wasn’t totally ready. I don’t know if I had intent or not so probably venial at worst.

Melodeonist, really. The fact that you are even wondering if that is a sin is insane.

**Please, talk to your priest. ** Perhaps you can meet for special instruction to clear up your misgivings. This is a real problem you have.

If you honestly forgot then the rule is you can receive eucharist, and just confess at your next opportunity.

If it’s not a mortal sin it doesn’t need to be confessed at all. Only mortal sins have to be confessed in confession.

On a different note:
Deliberately not mentioning a mortal sin in confession is the mortal sin of sacrilege (if committed freely, deliberately and in full freedom) and would mean none of the sins would be forgiven also.

But you forgot and Jesus understands that!!
Just mention it at your next confession

This is correct.

It sounds like the OP talks to his priest a lot. I would suggest a psychiatrist, frankly. This is runaway OCD.

But many, many posters have suggested something similar to the OP and he always ignores it, so…🤷

All sins are forgiven when you receive absolution. What you said would not be a mortal sin. Those you forgot can be confessed in the next confession. So, yes, you can receive communion.

This is precisely what is confusing to me. How can I tell what is a mortal sin or a venial sin? I know a Mortal Sin is Grave Matter, Full Knowledge, and Full Intent. If Grave Matter just means it breaks the 10 Commandments, then how is it possible for even the slightest offense to not be grave matter?

This is why we keep telling you to make an appointment with your priest.

He needs to help you walk through many missing gaps in your knowledge and spiritual and conscience formation.

You cannot integrate the faith into your life appropriately by asking random questions on an internet forum into infinity. At some point, you have to get help in person to put all the pieces together in a coherent whole so that you understand the principles and can judge for yourself.

Tell your priest your background-- if your parents didn’t give you formation, or you didn’t attend religious education, or whatever the case is plus tell the priest of your anxiety issues, your scruples, and any disabilities your have.

As my parents aren’t religious, I really have never had any faith formation. All I have was my RCIA classes which didn’t have too much in regards to discerning sin. When I was baptized and confirmed last year I chose my Aunt as my Godmother. She lives in another state and I’m not so sure she fully practices her faith. Thus, I am in the dark in regards to lots of this stuff.

Which is why you need a Spiritual Director!!

Please talk to your priest. If he cannot be your SD, ask him if he can recommend someone.
My current SD is a Deacon, I have also had a lay person who was trained in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius as an SD.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES! JUST DO IT!!

Cosigned all of this.

Melodeonist, please understand that I’m saying this as one imperfect, struggling Christian to another. This isn’t an attack or anything.

You’re kind of a frustrating person to engage with. You come in, ask a random question about some specific situation, get an answer, and then ignore most of the advice. Most of these things are stuff you should be able to figure out on your own. We’re all still learning, and that’s fine, but you don’t seem to actually hear any of the things people tell you: get a spiritual director, see a therapist, live a more active lifestyle, etc. Stop focusing so much on individual questions and start thinking about the bigger picture. You’re like a guy who keeps coming by and asking for fish, but ignores it when people suggest you learn how to catch fish yourself.

To get to the point of this thread, the fact that you thought this might theoretically be mortal sin is ridiculous. It just shows you don’t really “get it”. You need to apply some common sense here.

Serious question: Are you on the autism spectrum at all? That’s absolutely not an attack or an insult, just wondering. You seem to really struggle with interpreting and thinking through social situations.

If I also remember correctly, there have been several excuses given in the past as to why the OP doesn’t have time to meet with his/her pastor or SD. I’m not saying that to pile on, but this is something that really requires the help and guidance of an SD. I hope the OP finally takes this advice to heart.

You could really afford to be nicer to fellow posters, you know.
