Hello everyone,

If a person tries her best to confess everything but after confession worries that something has not been confessed, and remembers something that may not have been confessed or not confessed properly… does she need to confess this remembered thing at the next confession, or just forget about it? Is it okay to just go ahead and receive Communion?

Thanks!

It is definitely OK to just go ahead and receive Communion.

Ordinarily you should mention it if it was a mortal sin at your next confession but you can still go to Commmunion in the mean time. But in your case if you suffer from scrupulosity, my understanding is that you wouldn’t need to mention it at your next confession. But you can if you want to.

If you purposely withheld something, then you did not make an honest and valid confession. If you merely forgot through no fault of your own then you are forgiven. Just bring it up at your next confession. In th emeantime, the Church says you are free to receive communion since you did not purposely withhold these sins.

God doesn’t expect you to be perfect, just faithful. If you had remembered it in confession, would you have confessed it? If so, then God sees your heart.

If you just forgot about it, it is forgiven. There is no real need to bring it up, unless it would make you feel better.
