I know it sounds hard to believe, but I forgot Lent! I’ve been really sick the past two days and I’ve been on lots of medicines and haven’t been thinking clearly at all. I didn’t even realize it was Lent till about 20 mins ago! But I have another problem, I don’t know what to give up for Lent. I know we are supposed to make a sacrafice, but I was wondering, I’ve always tried saying the Rosary. I have never made it through a whole one. I was thinking that for Lent I could try saying the Rosary every other day or something. Sacraficing would bring me closer, but I was wondering could this bring me closer too? Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

Excellent idea. What ever brings you closer to Christ during this Lenten season is great.

Hi Punisherthunder! 🙂

I have some difficulties to believe that you could forget about Lent even if you were sick for two days. Most of us prepare for Lent (more or less) because we have a calander and plan ahead.

So my guess is that you are not of the types that plan ahead. You don’t have to change personality, but a little more “plan ahead” will not harm you (then you can get sick and still remember that it is Ashwedensday, Easter, Pentecost, Christmas etc …).

So to your point: You asked about praying more Rosery would be a good thing during Lent. The answer is YES!

In Lent we are supposed to give up something for the whole period. If you who ususally don’t make it through the whole Rosery, starts to pray the whole, you give up some of your time to God and you do as you shall do at Lent, prays more! A really good idea, Punisherthunder!

Please try to remember that at Lent Fridays are spesial: Every Friday you are to give up something special. You can chose yourself among these:
No meat, or if that is impossible, give up some other things like:
a) alcohol , tobacco or amusement ex. TV
b) extra prayeres (more than your Rosary), do something for the Church or show up for Stations of the Cross
c) more fasting than ususal and give the money you saved for something good (somone who needs your money… CARITAS).
d) You yourself help sick, old or somone you know are lonley.

I’ll leave an article that answers this question: **“Why do Catholics have their foreheads signed with ashes in the form of a cross on Ash Wednesday?” ** ( … so you are informed for next year 😃 , FYI: There was a time when I forgot Ashwedensday too. :o So you are not alone, but it’s possible to change)!

**Remember what you do are NOT supposed to be empty rituals, but things you do with a wish to draw yourself closer to God! **

Wish you all the best! 👍

YES, they did and they/we still do! 😃 It’s the trying that matters, not if we succeed or not. God knows about our fragility. That’s what Lent is about. We are to remember that we are not our own gods, but that we are created and meant to live with the Creator (who is superior) if we only will admit our own weakness and cry for his help to change a little in a direction that please HIM! 😃

(I am trying the best I can and hope I haven’t scared Punisherthunder away :bigyikes: with my former and longer post. I was only trying to help 👋 ).

don’t do anything about it until you are well, you should not be fasting, just eating and drinking what the doctor recommends. the rules of fast and abstinence don’t bind anyone whose condition would make it inadvisible. Begin when you are able, but you can start today with the prayer part. the penitiential practices of Lent are 3-fold, prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Sounds like you have been fasting from normal life while you were sick. Drink plenty of fluids.

More than one rigorous, conservative, orthodox priest has wagged his finger at me and warned me to “stop trying to be holier than the Church.”
