After Pope John XXII was given a formal correction, did he publicly state how he had been in error, to provide clarification?
 
Yes. He finally retracted his opinion, at least publicly enough for people to know about it (no tweeting, remember). The next pope (B12) issued an encyclical on the matter for further clarification (Benedictus Deus).
