This strikes me for two reasons. First, one of the best things I’ve ever been told is by my current pastor who said, “Live in the audience of One.” Second, it was this thought from a priest that prompted my friend (who has been influential in my jourey) to come Home to th Catholic church.

You mentioned that you were the Father of 20 somethings. My parents are your age and I’m in my mid 20’s. They are wonderful Christian parents and I don’t want to hurt them. They know of my journey to some degree and it troubles them. Prayers appreciated.

It’s not easy. It’s also sad that it has to be this way.

As for your parents, I can appreciate that you don’t want to hurt them. It will be easier if they believe Catholics are Christians because some people do not believe Catholics are Christians.

Even with starting at where you both agree, it can still be a challenge to have a conversation. But there are a lot of agreements with Protestants and Catholics. We all believe in the same Jesus unlike Mormons and Jehovah’s Witness who do not see Jesus the same as Protestants and Catholics. Protestants and Catholics both believe that we are saved by grace through faith but it goes deeper in Catholicism.

You mentioned that my comment “I have to answer to God for me and no one else” strikes you and that may be part of your position in a respectful, loving, Christ like way to your parents.

I’ve been married for 29 years in July and came to the conclusion that I would become Catholic even if my wife did not. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit moved in her life and we’ll enter the Church together 6 weeks from Saturday.

I hope that something I and others have said will help.
