Lame? Wow, I thought you were different, but apparently not. SO your “sincere” attempts at dialog with me were just deception to try to do what? I have made it clear that I am no longer with the RCC, so why make your comment other than to try to belittle. You disappoint me.
No. I’m different… but I still have a stupid sense of humor about all of this. You have got it yet have you?

And who said I was sincere? 😛 My sincerity is that the more I read your posts the more you sound like you’re hiding something. I’ve been toyed with online before and your story is pretty out there to say the least. And your insistence on continuing is scandalizing us Catholics. Your action are clearly that of dissent. Your agenda…I just have no idea. Maybe you’re really struggling. I don’t know. When I say I hope you find what you’re looking for I really maen that if you really knew what its like to be Protestant you’d run as fast to Rome as you could. I’ve been there most of my life. The best thing I learned there is how to put on the dog. Smile and act like all the good things in you is that I am pleaseing to God because if bad happened to us it’s obvious that we’re not doing something to please God. Now some people aren’t like that. But where I’ve been it is like that still. Want to talk about the underground church that the Protestants love to accuse us of pushing them in the ground or like my MIL says on the banks of rivers under trees. I’m skeptical because people just don’t pick up a bible and suddenly reject all they’ve learned in a year. You said you were Catholic when you first joined the forum. That implies that you are no longer Catholic. Not without pride being the cause of it you are obvioiusly angry at a priest for not giving you an answer you think they should konw. Priest does not imply expert. Has it occured to you that many priest barely get through the degrees. That would be like asking me to show you Differential Equations. I barely made it through it. I was stressed and it was the only C I received before graduation. I even graduated with honor with a B.S. If you’ve ever heard the analogy of what a B.S. is and then a M.S and thus a PhD… B=Bull, M=more P=pile high and deep. That is what my professors called it.

Most of our faith is a mystery. .

Don’t use me to justify your actions. And regarding your statment that you are no longer in the Catholic Church, I just told my son that I believe all validly baptized Christians are Catholic. So you can run but you can not hide…who sang that.

BTW: Go see the Chronicles of Narnia… It brought tears to my eyes. You see the first time I watched it I was Protestant. This time it meant so much more to me.

Coach says… I may enjoy this after all.

Yep…your about 27 going on 16

Are you a LIB?

Yes or no?

This is what I just got from the Coach via PM - whom I’m about to block - all this can be confirmed by a mod.
We’ve danced this dance before on other threads. You are not up to the task, so let this one go.
See what I mean folks!

That implies that you are no longer Catholic.I have stated that numerous times Not without pride being the cause of it you are obvioiusly angry at a priest for not giving you an answer you think they should konw.actually no, not angry at all, just stating facts. Why is anyt statement anti-Catholic(in lieu of a better term) angry? Priest does not imply expert.Isnt it supposed to? After all, they want you to obey them and the MAgesterium without question. I did see it. Have you seen the second one yet?

I did see it. Have you seen the second one yet?
I saw the secon one today. It was better than the first …to me.

And as far as being sarcastic…that’s just how I am. Between house repairs, 3 active children, changing careers, active in church, etc. I just don’t really have time to work towards the all Amercian Poster of the Year Award:rolleyes: . It’s part of my Protestant heritage anyway. Sorry you don’t like it. We engineer types come across quite rough at times. I have to work at it. In person, I’m much different. I joke most of the time typically making fun of myself and peole that think they konw it all, like engineers. My degree is in Geography…Geographic Information Systems…mapping and earth science.

I think you need to re-read your own posts. They are quite confusing to me in that you sound like your playing both sides of the fence. I may not have read far enough back though. Like I said, I have 3 children that keep me busy.

So you’re atheist then? Here’s where I’M HAving trouble… It is just deceitful to keep your profile listed as “catholic”. That’s obviously not the truth by your own admission. That I believe is grounds for being banned from the board if I remember correctly. I know that my favorite board bans anyone that does not introduce themselves. So its my problem, but I just had to say it…making it clear.

Further, you probably already know what the Catholic Church teaches about a Catholic leaving the Church. So I won’t go there.

As far as math is concerned. I am becoming a teacher, leaving civil engineering… I started a masters but left to support my family with the birth of our first son. I probably have more hours than you [not a boast] because I have over 180 semester hours in Math, all the Sciences, Engieering, English, Art and Music, History, Psychology, Education, Religion, Philosophy, Bible, Lots of Geography, Computer Science. Some might say I have a “well rounded” education. I also worked my tail off for it putting my life on the line serving in the US armed forces. Daddy and mommy didn’t pay my way. After leaving the seminary I got lost. And I would not have left had it not been for a prideful pathetic priest that made a pass on me. I was naive and very gentle. Since then I’ve obviously learned to bite. It’s all I ever wanted to be, a priest, serving God and the Church. I love peole. But so many people have abused my good nature. After a while I just started trying to defend myself and went a little to far i guess. Our paster even summed me up in a 2 hour sit down about what happened to me in the seminary. He said “your a person that’s not afraid to say no”. And I said “yes” I’m not afraid to say NO!

And as far as calling me arogant…that’ls like the pot calling the kettle black. Good luck with that. I at least know my limits or broken nature and that realize I don’t have ALL the answers. But what I think I do know, I’m not afraid to use it. However, I have enough academic education and spirituality to to realize truth in history. You may deny it, but you are truly confused whether you admit it or not. Otherwise you would have already changed you profile to reflect your true religious beliefs. That’s what I’m harrassing you about.

BTW: I don’t know you and you don’t know me and we will never meet. And no body on this forum knows who you are. So its rather difficult to be truly “scandalized” however you can scandalize a Church by falsifying your religion and saying the things you’re saying. You make us Catholics look like fools. Now that is truly uncharitable. We can do this forever, but I will stop and move on. It’s time to burry the horse…we’ve kicked it enough.

Praying for you.

Here’s where I’M HAving trouble… It is just deceitful to keep your profile listed as “catholic”.Its not deceitful if I forgot and never gave thought to the profile…accusing someone of deceit is not too Christian either by the way That’s obviously not the truth by your own admission. That I believe is grounds for being banned from the board if I remember correctly.Again, you are keeping up an attack based on a false presumption of yours. However, it has since ben changed now that folks have brought it to mind for me I know that my favorite board bans anyone that does not introduce themselves. Thats just it, you dont. You are in bondage to your church.
Satan probably convinced Adam and Eve that they were in bondage, then after they ate of the forbidden fruit they had total freedom.

I sort of envy you though, although envy is a sin, I do wish I had an al la ca-rte religion like you, but the RCC doesn’t have an** al la ca-rte **menu sadly, which is why many can’t hack it, the narrow road is hard to keep on sometimes.

and what al-la cate religion do you presume to know that I have? I just have to love all the assumptions and presumptions your type run with when confronted with truth and you cant refute it, so you all resort to this type of meaningless post. It

“Not a hundred people in the United States hate the Roman Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.” -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Your signature of Bishop Sheen’s quote sums it up very well…

At the end of the day, no one will remember what this former Catholic said, but many know who Scott Hahn is. And the best thing we can do, is pray for those who have fallen away - eventually, many of them do come back. 👍

Actually, not all that unreliable. I have just read the site a bit, and hje makes his cases quite well.
For someone who begins with an unscriptural fundamental error in doctrine like Sola Scriptura I guess you could say that, but then not only that basis is corrupted but the subsequent conclusions and doctrines that derive from it as well.

Start with a bad premise and the end is generally a bad conclusion.
Hatred? Perhaps the C’s are motivated by assumptions. The Spirit of Truth led him away, from bondage to the true freedom of Christ.
As is generally the case with most a-Cs. I disagree with you as to what spirit led him where, as I would know because I left the church for over 30 years and it certainly was not the Spirit of Truth that led me there, nor was the fruit worthy of the name of Christ.

Error is never a fruit of the Holy Spirit’s leading.
Because the more I studied, the more I learned to condemn and have reason to leave.
That’s odd, I essentially found just the opposite to be true.

I discovered that the “Bible alone” doctrines are unscriptural themselves, that Faith Alone is also a twist of the Word of God, and that the early church did not believe the modern doctrinal errors of the Reformation or their doctrinal step children of today.

yet I found clear statements from the ECF that show that what they taught and believed (and were martyred for in many cases) was indeed catholic teaching that has been preserved by the church and come down to us today. You can read it all in My Testimony.

(Back after Mass) 🙂

I respect your journey, though as a usual Catholic, you dont seem to respect mine.(with your “thats odd” comment, like your experience is the litmus test for all others) As far as a false premise, I could level that charge against you as well, the only difference is that the BIble would support mine, your tradition is shaky ground.

This is why we tolerate the intolerance and illicit actions of prideful priests. It’s ashamed that we can’t get beyond our petty personality disorders and see the truth in the eucharist.

Have a blessed Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

I too left the Catholic Church when I was 18. I was ignorant, and blamed the Church for not teaching me. I loved Christ, but I never got to KNOW His Church on Earth.

To this very day, I am a little mad that I wasted so many years as a fundamentalist, when it really was Christ and His truth that I was seeking. I thought it was in the modern evangelical churches. Sure, His truth is there, but it’s not ALL of His truth.

We Catholics really are to blame for so many people being clueless about the faith they are raised in. I loved God, I wanted to do His will, I attended Mass every Sunday until College, I read the Bible, I went to Catholic school and CCD every year, and still I didn’t hear anything to defend my faith.
This is probably the same story that many of us have to tell. And of course you are quite right that we all need to know our faith well enough to defend it.

I suspect that it wasn’t until it was challenged and attacked that we ever began to look for those answers.

Notice too that historically that is also how the Church responds. waiting until a belief is challenged before defining it. 🙂

Still, it was the attacks on things that I KNEW were not so that really got me digging and ultimately led me (by the grace of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of a whole lot of people!) back home to our most holy faith.

These challenges are. in a backhanded kind of way, a real blessing because they do two things.
  1. Force us to obey the New Testament which says, “Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” (2nd Timothy 2:15), and
  2. Give us blessed openings to share our faith and evangelize the whole world.
Guys like this don’t really faze me. Having been where they are I know most of what they will offer before they offer it. Most of it, has proved to be issues that I have already resolved and can explain and defend. 🤷

I wonder if anyone in this thread brothered to read this ex-priests life story on his website. It was rather interesting. He actually brings up some good points about the Church:
It began to dawn on me that in Biblical terms, the Bishops I knew in the Catholic Church were not Biblical believers. They were for the most part pious men taken up with devotion to Mary and the Rosary and loyal to Rome, but not one had any idea of the finished work of salvation, that Christ’s work is done, that salvation is personal and complete. They all preached penance for sin, human suffering, religious deeds, “the way of man” rather than the Gospel of grace. But by God’s grace I saw that it was not through the Roman Church nor by any kind of works that one is saved, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
This makes me think of VACII and all the good that it has done. I think at one time the above had some truth to it. I don’t think that is the Church today because I think Catholics are trying hard to embrace the bible more. But what I see on CAF is a concern in that there does seem to be more of a focus on suffering, sin and tradition then on scripture. I think traditionlists in the Church would fall under what the ex-priest is discribing. That is probably going to offend some but as so many hard liners say on here…truth is not always easy to hear 😉

This poor priest has a major faith crises. He struggled:
Yet when I returned to Trinidad and again became involved in real life problems, I began to return to the authority of God’s Word. Finally the tension became like a tug-of-war inside me. Sometimes I looked to the Roman Church as being absolute, sometimes to the authority of the Bible as being final. My stomach suffered much during those years; my emotions were being torn. I ought to have known the simple truth that one cannot serve two masters.
I feel sorry for the poor man. It must have been very difficult to leave. The problems he has with Scott Hahn and Patrick Madrid are worth looking at. Just because these men are good Catholics and teaching the faith doesn’t mean every single thing they say is correct or how they are coming to conclusions is correct. Maybe this priest has been able to poke some holes into some of the conclusions…maybe the conclusions are fauty. He was a priest and did study the faith at great length.

I would love to see Patrick and Scott debate with this priest. That would be interesting.

I am studying the Bible. I dont think I would ever consider returning.
That will of course be your own loss.

As for studying the Bible, I do that too and have been for many many years as both a Catholic, a “Jesus freak”, a southern Baptist, (who nearly went into their ministry), and then a deacon in an Assembly of God. The problem is that none of the teaching that I received outside of the Catholic faith was ever consistent and often took greater leaps of blind faith to accept than anything that the Catholic Church has ever taught.

Frankly, I praise God now that I no longer have to do theological gymnastics while clinging to twisted scriptural interpretations of men.
Funny perhaps but that is my understanding of it, try not to belittle it. I believe I am now free in the freedom of Christ and you are still in man-made bondage.
Unfortunate for you that Catholic beliefs are scriptural and then supported by the writings of the earliest church fathers while the modern post reformation step children are still out there pretty much making it up as they go along. Read the ECF and tell me if what you now hold as your faith is consistent with what they were martyred for. For example: The Eucharist IS Scriptural
Unfortunately, Jesus taught otherwise, and Paul followed suit.
Actually no…the fact is that what Jesus taught is supported by the words of Christ again and again and (as for instance the Eucharist as I cited above) St. Paul did indeed follow suit, but most modern n-Cs have not.
Thats just it, you dont. You are in bondage to your church.
Hogwash! there is no bondage within the Catholic faith, but there is plenteous bondage to the errant modern teachings of men outside of the Catholic faith. Look for instance at Who REALLY Preaches “A Different Gospel”? all the rhetoric aside, the facts are there in plain English. If the modern post reformation stepchildren are indeed teaching something different than the New Testament Gospel, then I submit that that is where the real bondage is.
You misunderstand what is meant by freedom. Reread Paul.
Have read St. Paul many times and will be studying Romans again soon as well. I find no conflict whatever in Paul’s writings with anyone but those outside the Catholic faith.
It is incorrect, an I do forgive you. What is funny though is you acuse me of superiority, yet spew how many minutes a day you read and how you have read the Bible cover to cover. You dont see me self-aggrandizing like that, do you?
Irrelevant, and generally only brought out in an effort to disavow you and others of the misinformation that we Catholics do not read the Bible or have much of a prayer life.

It seems odd to me that a person from a n-C “Bible only” background such as your own, (whatever it may be) would make such a remark when the poor Catholic has only made a humble effort to show you that he also studies the word of God. Something that you yourself brought up as some kind of reason for your rejection of the Catholic faith. Why not accept it as intended instead of upbraiding him for doing something you hold dear. He certainly wasn’t bragging like a pharisee, but simply sharing his testimony of faith

That will of course be your own loss.no, I dont think it is.

It seems odd to me that a person from a n-C “Bible only” background such as your own, (whatever it may be) shows how little you have been following…mine is a CAtholic background, so it seems what you say next is on a false premisewould make such a remark when the poor Catholic has only made a humble effort to show you that he also studies the word of God. Something that you yourself brought up as some kind of reason for your rejection of the Catholic faith. Why not accept it as intended instead of upbraiding him for doing something you hold dear. He certainly wasn’t bragging like a pharisee, but simply sharing his testimony of faith

Just wondering why you experience is valid because you are in the RCC, and mine it seems is not because it led me away.
For the same reason that I tell people again and again…there is such a thing as objective truth and when discovered it does indeed invalidate false teachings and beliefs.

If the fundamental doctrine of your belief system is Sola Scriptura then in fact you have to suspect every doctrine that has trickled down from that essential error.

Since SS is indeed unscriptural itself, then there is a house of cards of doctrines of men upon which they are founded that also collapses. That’s the way truth and logic works…
