Its not worth dialoging with these kinds of people. They have no interest in listening to, much less investigating or considering the Catholic side of the story. All they are interested in is your conversion out of the Catholic Church, not the facts as anyone else sees them.

One thing is for sure, if by some one in a gazillion chance they ever do become Catholic again, it would be by a direct intervention of God and not by any effort on the part of man aside from prayer. And that is what I pray for.:gopray2:

They are bigots, pure and simple. Their whole existance is based on their hatred of the Catholic church. I can’t stand to read stuff like that because it really gets me upset. My wife says pray for them. I guess thats the best responce.

Some of the “humor” on the sight was rather absurd. Or at least I failed to see the humor.

The testimonials were somewhat more interesting. Based on what I read there and other life experience it seems that an individual will follow the path of “Former Catholics for Christ” because a person who represented the church (commonly a priest, nun, or the parent of that individual) clearly did not represent Christ well to that individual.

The ideal response for the individual would be to continue to seek God in the Church despite the failure of the human leader, but clearly some fail to make that ideal response.

Prayer, as suggested above, is certainly an excellent response for all of us to make for those individuals. Additionaly we can do our best to not misrepresent Christ in how we live our own lives. That may or may not bring anyone back to the church but it would likely reduce the number that leave to follow this path

check out this section of this poor woman’s testimony from the above web-site:

**And finally, Randy began an affair with a woman from within the jail that lasted even after I caught him, forgave him and still remained faithful. **

I went to bed most nights praying that God would just take me. I had no place to turn (or so I thought), no friends or anything. I confided in my priest from Indiana, a man I respected and trusted, who told me to tough it out because no matter how unfaithful and depraved Randy was, no matter how alone, broke and sick I was, I was forbidden by God to abandon my husband. The last day I would consider myself Catholic was in summer of 2001. I went to church, and because I my desire to cut ties with my husband was so strong, I knew it was not allowed for me to accept Christ through the Eucharist. As I watched the others partaking in the body and blood of Christ, it suddenly occurred to me that I was essentially being told that if I literally escaped from an unsafe and unhealthy marriage that God didn’t love me as much and did not think me worthy of his gifts. I decided at that moment that I could not believe in a God that would force me to live with all this in order to earn his love. I never went back to Catholic Church after that.

Jesus said He hates divorce certainly. Yet He also said we are not commanded, by any means to remain with someone whoo has committed adultry. Let alone habitual adultry.

This “testimony” is a testimony of outright tremendous (yet innocent I believe) ignorance of the teachings of the Catholic Faith. It seems such a shame this woman was led astray.

What a sad and strange group of people on that site! If they are so eager to be away from all things Catholic, why identify themselves as Former Catholics? Why not just join a new church and be “Baptist”, “Lutheran”, etc. whatever! Even in their hatred of the Church, they still seem to need to connect themselves to it in some way even if by calling themselves Former Catholics. Weird, weird, weird.

I love their Forums rules. (PM this poster for link to this anti-Catholic site. CAF in no way encourages “board swarming”.)
They are so…well what they are.
Only KJV. No links to Catholic Apologetical websites in your signiture.

What’s even funnier is this:
What I have noticed lately is that many Roman Catholics are not here trying to defend their faith anymore. From what I have seen in the last 5 1/2 years, I would say the reason for this is because they can’t defend their faith against us, who speak in Truth.
The word of God is chasing away the devil and his false doctrine. We have seen some good come from this board and today…well, I see that Catholics are too afraid to come here and debate with us fine Bible Believers!

WOOOHoooooo!

Watch them post and run…watch them cry and whine…watch them disappear and not come back because they can’t handle the truth.
More like watch them post and then be told off for violating the Forum Rules that tell them not to be Catholic on the board.

The thread that’s in is hilarious too. It’s right off from the Forum Rules that Montie posted, in a section called “the Truth.”

The hate and venom is so strong. The administrator, Deborah… I’m just so suprised to be hearing such strong words about, ‘crybabies,’ and such. You’d think that people so dedicated to Christ would be more. Uh. Humble.

Pax vobiscum,
We should ask them to prove their forum rules from the word of God, or else tell them that our freedom as Christians is not bound by them. 😃

For some reason I think of them as people who send their old parents to nursing homes (and not the good ones).
One must agree that the chairty there is a little…little.
I don’t know if we should just leave them like that.We haven’t even tried yet. I know we proboly won’t do any good but, hey why not go to the pearly gates and say we tried? And plus mean spitefull people are funny when they talk relgion.

Did you read the poetry? Some of it is pretty amusing.
I like this poem.
Ex-catholics don’t like us,
They think that we are wrong,
But, when we take the eucharist,
We simply are the bomb!
😃

Speaking as one who did try for quite some time there, I will echo what Church Militant said: knock the dust off your sandals and don’t waste your time. You simply can’t use reason with crazy people. The only reason I persisted there as long as I did was out of a sense of duty to “innocent bystanders” and casual visitors who might happen across that site. But I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Not only that, but posts in defense of Catholicism probably serve to stoke up their fires, as it contributes to the idea (so cherished by loonies) that they’re being persecuted by the BIG BAD CATHOLIC CHURCH ™. Better to let them run out of gas all on their lonesome own…
Montie Claunch:

Maybe, but it’s not exactly charitable.

That’s why I thought it so funny. I always thought relgious to be chritable and mean as sin. I think the paradox is histarical. But, yeah, It isn’t exactly the best thing for a person to do.

It seems to me that the people running that site do not really want Catholics to defend their faith, because all they do is place hundreds of roadblocks in the way. Rather, they want Catholics to leave the Church immediately, and follow their truths, or else we are worthless to them.

They need much prayer.

i left that site too. They don’t debate with Catholics there. They only malign the Catholics with those nonsense remarks. I abandoned that site because their gospel of HATRED against thy neighbor might take the better of me.

   Their forum rules remind me of the JW’s. “you can read andything you want and discuss anything you like as long as the subject material and reference material does not fall outside of what is preached and disseminated by the Watchtower.”

I used to be Catholic but I would never participate in a forum like “FORMER CATHOLICS FOR CHRIST”. It made me angry to read some of the things that were said on that web site because I knew they were false. It doesn’t help anyone, Catholic or Protestant, to write that kind of trash. You don’t draw people to Christ that way and I don’t know how you would be able to answer them that would make any difference. I have met a lot of good Christian people in both the Catholic Church and Protestant churches. Web sites like that are not worth anyones time. Like Della wrote - “Even though our instinct is to rush in and correct these lost souls, based on the experiences of those who have tried, we would be casting pearls before swine”.

A good source would be Anti-Catholicism: the Last Acceptable Prejudice by Jenkins. It is especially useful when you realize the author is not Catholic, but a FORMER Catholic. I got my copy at the local Border’s Book Store, so it should be pretty accessible…

At least these venomous anti-Catholics are still interested in God. I have met some very angry people who hate the Church, hate Christ, and hate God and think the whole thing is a horrible fabrication.

I suppose someone has already mentioned that the doctrine of Sola Scriptura is completely unbiblical?
