Former Catholics-How many years were you Catholic before you left.

I’m 18, and Im gonna leave the church as soon as I move out, which should be in around 3 month.

Why do you want to leave a Church that Jesus Built Upon Peter? For I tell you, Protestants did not exist until 1517… It would be best if you remain Catholic… if not convert to E. Orthodoxy since they maintain ancient liturgic worship…

I know there are different reasons, but the main thing that leads a person to leave is being poorly catechized.

A person who truly believes and knows Jesus in the Eucharist will never ever leave the church for anything in this world.

While a few leaving the Church, others come to the Church with joys and happiness.

I pray for you all to someday realize how precious the gift of His Body and Blood is for you.

I was extremely well-catechized, thanks. I’d say on par with anyone here, and more than many. I’m well-versed in the classics, still have chunks of the Baltimore Catechism memorized, etc. etc.

I left partly because I realized I apparently lack the capacity for true faith as religious people seem to know it; until then, I’d been going through the motions unknowingly, having mostly grown up Catholic.

Another realization was that religion is unnecessary for my happiness and spiritual well-being; in fact, I only really managed to attain inner peace outside religion.

And finally, I thought that if there is a deity, the only one I could truly call God is rather different from the God of Abraham: much less personal, much less human, and probably not all that interested in us. But since it’s so impersonal, and there’s no evidence, I can’t be bothered.

Oh, im not going to another faith. I had no hand in my official religion. My parents baptized me when I was a few days old. I had no choice in my religion. I utterly flat out disagree with most of the social teachings (except helping the needy), from where life begins, to same sex marriage, etc. Theres other stuff, but its a long story, and I’m not going to get into it.

Probably, it wasn’t too negative. Your comment is for us to discuss and to help each other understand one another’s belief, and how we can help each other express our faith clearer.

I think when people mention a lot about the Church, I don’t think they just mean “the Church” only…it is more about how the Church created, what the Church’s role, etc … So, when I say I am loyal to the Church, I was indirectly meaning that I am loyal to Jesus. Again, it is easier for me to see that way because that is how I, as Catholic, think…but it could be a little unclear to you because you have different way of thinking.

Note, I did say, you can only find the Real Presence in the Catholic and Orthodox Church. I did not say monopolized, if I did, I would say only the Catholic Church.

Let me ask you one question. How often does your Church have the Breading of the Bread?

Most Protestants believe in Symbolic meaning of the Eucharist not Real Presence.

So like I said there is no Real Substantial Presence of Jesus Christ. Real Presence.

This is more Catholic propaganda as well. Scripture never states that only the Roman church embodies the real presence of Christ. For that matter, some Protestant churches may have it for certain while the Roman church may not at all. After all, it is only Catholics who say that only they possess the true Eucharist.

Very cool topic. I am an ex-cradle Catholic and was for 34 years. My wife was studying to become Catholic when we were married Catholic. My 4 year old son was baptized Catholic but we left the church and converted to the Episcopal church 5 months later when a Catholic priest refused to baptize my wife ready to undergo major surgery even though she had a month of previous classes in the church. She was soon thereafter baptized and confirmed by our Bishop in the Episcopal church at the same time I and my son were received in. We have found the true meaning of knowing the holy spirit and what it is to raise a family in a loving church which truly is the body of Christ. We are home in our church and have no intentions to ever return to the Catholic church.

Not meaning to be rude, but it’s sad when I see all these posts about “me, me, me.” Christian worship is about glorifying God, not how it makes someone feel. The mass is a weekly gathering of the community for the purpose of glorifying the creator.

Scripture does even mention Alter Calls mind you. Is your hatred for the Catholic Church that deep? My friend, my dear friend. As I have said, only the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church has Real Presence. Protestants don’t. For one most evangelicals lack any Holy Order, they do not have priest to consecrate the Body and Blood of the Lord. Even if they did have priest, like the Anglican Church, their sacraments are invalid.

Without priesthood, there is no consecrated Body and Blood of the Lord. For it is the priest through the Power of the Holy Spirit, the Bread and Wine becomes His Body and Blood.’

Orthodox Christians held this belief and so do Catholics. Catholic Propaganda? Barely. If it were I would not have addressed the other Lung of the Body of Mystical Body of Christ, which St. John Paul the Great consider the Eastern Christians.

An Episcopal Church that ordains women and homosexual priest. I hardly think the Episcopal Church is the True Church of Christ…

Thanks water. You are always kind and I appreciate that and I understand what you are saying. You are right I do look at that different so thank you for clarifying.

Just a note.

I was talking to a Cradle Catholic and she told me of a talk she had with someone trying to teach her about a “real” relationship with Christ.

They asked her how she thought she was getting to heaven. She said, my faith in the Church. Since I knew her well, and knew she had abundant faith in Christ, I asked her to expand a little bit. She said, “Well I am going to heaven because of Christ, of course.” (I then told her to say "Believe on the Lord and thou shalt be saved:thumbsup: and she won’t get the come one come all speach )

Christ and the Church are One. So when a Catholic Christian talks about their faith in the Church, it is understood that they are referring to Christ. Christ is the Church.

Of course the ones that leave the Church never made that connection to Christ and so completely misunderstand the phrase they grow up hearing, “My faith in the Church” and misconstrue it to mean something it doesn’t.

I had trouble forming my thoughts into words as I skimmed over this thread, but it seems you have summed it up here pretty well.
