Glory to Jesus Christ!

As many Protestants are seeking ancient, apostolic Christianity, they often times come face-to-face with Orthodoxy. This group of 26 former CEC (Charismatic Episcopal Church) congregants were received into the Orthodox Church in April, with their former minister being ordained last week. Here’s the link. I also wrote an article about it on my Examiner page, but thought the one by the Frederick News-Post was better. 🙂

That’s wonderful!

I really think that the recent liberal decisions by various mainstream Protestant churches are causing more people to consider Orthodoxy and Catholicism (at least the ones that don’t go off into atheism and agnosticism…). Orthodoxy may provide an “easier” transition to apostolic Christianity, if anything because they don’t have to deal with the issues of the Papacy. Catholicism may be more attractive for some because of the similarities liturgically, so in that regard it may be “easier”. 🤷

Apparently 10 Episcopal nuns and a priest are becoming Catholic as well.

This seems to be on the verge of happening a lot. As the Anglican Communion becomes fractured in its beliefs and orthodoxy. I wonder if the same thing may happen to the Lutheran Church (ELCA), with the recent developments. Fewer and fewer Christian denominations recognize the Apostles Creed or the Nicene Creed anymore. Many of the Christian beliefs professed in those creeds (which cost many Martyrs their lives) are being thrown out the window for something ‘new.’ I wish you happiness on your new journey with our Lord!

Interesting that it was received as a Western rite parish!

I wonder if they will use the Liturgy of St. Gregory or of St. Tikhon (which is basically a hodge-podge).

Yes, I thought the same thing! I’ve heard that there are some that use the Ambrosian Liturgy and others that use the Liturgy of St. Germanus (aka Gallican Rite), but I don’t think those are in the USA.

Apparently, this is not the only CEC parish that did that. This parish did the same thing. The CEC has experienced some turmoil in recent years. emmanuelorthodox.org/ (nice traditional church),

A former CEC priest (convert to Catholicism) who is now studying for his PhD used to post here.

It should be noted, if it hasn’t been, that the CEC has absolutely no connection with either the Episcopal Church, or the Anglican Communion. And the former CEC priest mentioned, who used to post here, may have his Phd by now and is seeking to become a RC priest.

Thank you for bringing that up, GKC. I forgot about that little tidbit myself.

I have seen various Western Orthodox parishes (online, not in person) and they do look very nice. I have yet to see one without pews, though. 😛 There is a WO parish in Lynchburg, which is about an hour from me that I would like to check out sometime. They were former Episcopalians (ECUSA) I think.

Anyone else have comments, opinions, etc? I wonder if there will be more either from the CEC or even individual ACNA congregations. I imagine most disaffected ECLA will probably move to a conservative synod and the same goes for upset Methodists (at the recent communion between the two). One can hope and pray! 🙂

They use the Liturgy of St. Gregory. I’ve been there a few times. Fr. James (the priest who just got ordained) said that there are some minor mis-quotes in the paper but he thought the author put together an excellent piece. Most of all because it gets the word out about the Orthodox church.
