I was just listening to a speech of Padre Fortea and it is so beautiful I just want to share it a little with you all. He said he stopped to think of how the Virgin Mary is symbolized in the Mass and can note 17 plus symbols. He was obviously illuminated by the Holy Spirit. Well, I don’t have time right now to translate the whole presentation but, I will share a little.

Fortea says that the Virgin Mary is symbolized by the chalice. He goes on and on about it and its just so beautiful. He also says that the Church has never affirmed nor denied the title of Mary as co-redemptorist and this is symbolized when the priest lifts the chalice with the blood etc…

I don’t think that I will ever see that chalice the same again. 🙂

What sayest thou?

I think if one is looking for 17 symbols of Mary in the Mass, one risks losing the key focus of the Mass itself, which is not fundamentally about Mary, however unique is her role in salvation history.

Abba. Do you have a link for this?

It sounds like something I would like to listen to.

Thanks in advance.

God bless.

Our Lady always draws us close to Christ. It is impossible to love Her more without loving Christ all the more. Any symbols of Our Lady must, by their very nature, point to Christ. In the OP’s example of the Chalice…who is IN the Chalice? We may honour the Chalice, but we receive the Lord.
Keep in mind that there are already many feasts and memorials (and many additional optional memorials) dedicated to Our Lady…and she is commemorated at every Mass at least a couple of times. Are you familiar with the Byzantine Divine Liturgy? There’s some pretty intense Marian moments.

Hello Cathoholic, 🙂

Below is the link. It’s in Spanish though. I would not be surprised if someday not only his books are translated to different languages but also his sermons and speeches. 🙂

P.s. It’s as though God had been cooking (preparing) him for decade for us and now he is well done and has come out. 🙂

Seconded! Guilty as charged. It was Our Blessed Virgin Mary who took me to Jesus.

I don’t understand everything about her, but, I can say that when I went to Lourdes, she came out to greet me. I had to tell her to stop because I wanted to live to raise my son and I thought my heart would explode inside of me. 🙂
