1808 Fortitude is the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in the pursuit of the good. It strengthens the resolve to resist temptations and to overcome obstacles in the moral life. the virtue of fortitude enables one to conquer fear, even fear of death, and to face trials and persecutions. It disposes one even to renounce and sacrifice his life in defense of a just cause. "The Lord is my strength and my song."70 "In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."71 (from the Catechism)
What do you do when the people around you seem indifferent to their spiritual life?
Bless them, correct them lovingingly, find new friends who put their spiritual life as the highest priority and hang around them, concentrate on your own spiritual life, pray for them, release them in your heart to God’s care as God is all powerful while human beings are extremely limited beings, don’t worry, and allow yourself to experience God’s joy…and be careful whose advice you listen to!
When you admonish them to do what is right they just dismiss what you say?
“I’ll let myself out” if you’re in their house and “let me show you the door, dear” if they’re in your house, in a kind way…
When everywhere you like you strive to find virtue but usually get disappointed?
remember about looking for the speck in the other person’s eye before you’ve removed the log from your own eye…
maybe you could consider going to other places…if you’re going into the bad parts of town you’re less likely to see overtly virtuous acts…
How do find joy when everything seems to go contrary to goodness?
pay more attention to details in the mundane…do something for someone every day that will lift their spirits up a bit…
and, by the way, you sound depressed…I hope you feel better.
Remember to laugh.
I’d also suggest to go to an animal shelter and play with the puppies. And some counseling.
