I have a quick silly question. I get so many emails, nice as they are, that I do not forward. They are usually inspirational or patriotic in nature. At the end they say "If you believe in God and in Jesus Christ His Son…send this to all on your Buddy list…if not just ignore…In the Bible, Jesus says…“If you deny me Before man, I will deny you before my Father in Heaven.” As a loyal Catholic I trust in the authority of the Majestarium. Is this a form of denying our Lord before man? I would guess not since I do share my knowledge of Him but I do not think it is right to “shove Him” into someones inbox and try this guilt trip on them. Thanks for any (name removed by moderator)ut.

Yeah, don’t worry about any eternal consequences for not forwarding an email with such a threat attached to it.

Satan quotes scripture, too.

I never forward any “chain” emails, especially the ones that say “send this to 10 people including the person who sent it to you.” Good, bad, or indifferent, they all go into the trash bin.

Yeah, that is what I ussually do too, just thought I’d ask to get a idea of what other faithful do with them.

Riverman,

There is a world of difference between not forwarding inspirational e-mails and denying Jesus. Personally, I regard these e-mails, inspirational as they may be, as a nuisance.

My friend once told me in reference to emails like that “God isn’t about us proving our love for Him by forwarding emails. He’d be more impressed with us living our lives for Him as an example to others.” 😉
I totally agree with that! 🙂

I trash them about 98 percent of the time. I will only forward them to people who I know will appreciate hearing that I have thought about them and am praying for them.

Have you noticed that the majority of such emails also instruct you to say a specific prayer and then forward them to X number of people within a certain timeframe, and if you do, your wish will come true? I don’t do religion by superstition. If God deigns to answer my prayers (NOT grant my wishes!), I doubt He will check to see if how many people I forwarded an email to first.

Amen! It seems that these e-mails want us to believe that God will answer our prayers if we forward the message to 10 people, but not if we only forward it ot 9. Or He’ll answer if we send the message on within ten minutes, but not if we hang onto it for half a day. Or maybe He’ll smite us with bad luck if we don’t pass the message on at all. Doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. 😃 (And not passing them on definitely isn’t denying Christ. 🙂 )

If I receive a prayer/picture/message that I think is really beautiful or inspirational, I will edit the message to remove any threats, or instructions to pass it on, or other superstitious silliness, and then pass the edited message on to any whom I think would appreciate it.

It’s very rare that I’ll forward emails.

I hate the ones that say ‘If I love Jesus…’ or suchlike then forward this to half the world, implying that not forwarding it is not loving Jesus.

I hate the ones that state ‘facts’ because those ‘facts’ are generally false.

Sometimes they are not actually false just out of date - there are still prayer requests going the rounds for situations that were resolved years ago either happily or unhappily.

Only yesterday I got a mail (so did about 50 people) saying that Bill Gates was giving away a fortune. Forward this and receive $245 for everyone you forward it to and $243 for everyone they forward it to and so on, and Microsoft will track it all and pay you a fortune.

Of course that’s complete hogwash. So in this case I did reply to all the 50 people the person who sent it to me had sent it to, to let them all know it was hogwash and not to forward it. Anything to do my bit to cut down on this horrible rubbish clogging up the internet and our inboxes.

If in doubt, don’t forward. You won’t go to hell. It isn’t even venial sin. And the priest doesn’t need to know!
