So, you are all jewels. They are coming down from the sky now too.

Quantum physics is being dragged into this, and somehow I get the impression this woman is totally clueless about it.

I don’t know about quantum physics but there is one of these churches near my home and they preach the gospel of hatred on a regular basis. Their people take notice of it I can assure you. Our teens are regularly bombarded by them at school.

A quote from their great pastor, “Catholics are going to hell!”

😦

So it’s not just a marketing scam but it’s also a hate preaching place?
It’s getting more disgusting by the minute here.

Notice that they call Teresa of Avila a “great Christian mystic?” Yes, that is true, but even more true is that she was CATHOLIC!!

And I bet she is none too happy having her name associated with such nonsense.

I started reading some quotes of hers recently. Smart and sense of humor too. Just those two things alone would make her cringe seeing her name mixed into this scam.

Thanks for pointing to this; I missed it when I read the page. Yes a Catholic Christian who happens to be one of 33 Doctors of the Roman Catholic Church.

It’s funny how you like someone who belongs to an institution you dislike if it helps you sell merchandise…interesting.😉

Assuming that they do preach that Catholics are damned, I wonder why they would quote her…Or, are they going to try to change reality like some tried to do with St. Patrick and make him a non-Catholic as well

I would like to know what is the difference between a “Catholic” and a “Catholic Christian”?

A reinforcement and reminder to people who don’t believe catholics are christian perhaps.

I never knew how many people argue that catholics are not christian, and other things until after coming to this site.

You got it strawberry, I am tired of being called a Catholic and believed by some to not be Christian. I introduce myself, when appropriate, as a Catholic Christian. It normally stirs a converstaion with protestants that I encounter.

The local 4sq Gospel church here preaches that I am not Christian because I am Catholic. I beg to differ!

Well, I guess I am like a clock and can get it right at least twice a day!

Kidding aside, I am sure that is not very fun. Sorry they do that to you. I know Catholics are christians and I get very turned off by that entire diatribe by fundamentalists and other splinter groups. Why do you think I like hanging out here instead of in their hang outs? They are very hard to take. You guys, for the most part are pretty reasonable people.

I may not be though!😉

Soon enough I will either be able to get some finality on this, or be able to say farewell to this investigation. I can’t go on like this forever. Nothing is happening for me, and I should be ready to be at peace with that but, I keep saying I will give it a bit longer.

Even if I never can do it, I will never regret learning your faith and knowing some of you here.

Rambling now.

StawberryJam: I am missing the connection between these marketing ploys you link to, with the Foursquare church. But I checked the site linked and did a quick search for “foursquare” on the main page linked. I found nothing. The wikipedia article on the Foursquare Church carries no mention of jewels, and most of their statements of belief as given there fit Catholic Orthodoxy with the necessary qualifiers.

To everyone: I have no doubt that many Protestants (see CARM) go overboard in how they view Catholics, and that this probably includes, as attested in the experience of some of the posters in this thread, some of the Foursquare people of varying official capacity. I guess I was left wondering if the notion implied by some here, that the Foursquare Church teaches Catholics are damned, is actually true of that church in its official capacity, or not. So, I did some research and found this, their official declaration of faith in fuller form, on their official website. I do not find anything there which by direct implication suggests that Catholics are damned; therefore pending further evidence I’m not sure it’s been established that this is really what they teach as a church. It is probably, sadly, true that certain, perhaps many, of their pastors preach this.

But to pretend that this is the official teaching of their church on that basis, would be akin to, though certainly not the same level of error as, a Protestant acting as if the official church interpretation of extra ecclesiam nulla sullus was “Protestants are damned,” just because some Catholics voice an opinion to that effect. It’s an understandable error in either case, and though nothing in official Foursquare teaching appears to actually speak against it (as there are official Vatican nuances against harsh interpretations of extra ecclesiam, it is in both cases a false conclusion from the data given.

EDIT: BONUS: I looked through some of their web-site with the keyword “Catholic.” While I do think it’s clear that they view Catholicism as an inferior form of Christianity, it is not clear to me that they view Catholics as being non-Christians and/or damned; some of their documents seem to go in that direction in places, but the language is muddy enough that if a Four-Square person wanted to, I don’t think they’d have to go that far. If anyone has any other links to official documents that could shed more light on that issue, I’d love to see them, because I’m deeply curious. /end EDIT

P.S. Strawberry: I shall pray that God continues to guide you towards the Truth of our Lord!

All I can find is that the author of the book being sold in her thumbnail bio has claimed to have been ordained and planted churches with both Foursquare and the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. So my guess is clever marketing ploy

I attend a Four Square Church. There is no Catholic hating or any other sort of hate preaching going on.

When you are ordained in the foursquare church, do they have any guidelines on what kind of marketing of religion you can do, or are you pretty free to do as you see fit?

I have no ideal check the website and/or try to contact a supervisor. But what is the corporation, the legal structure of the church,to do? sue an author for writing a book demand that she identifies herself differently? After all it is a book not an official document of the church.
