Fox News Host Laura Ingraham Doubts ‘All In The Family’ & ‘Jeffersons’ Recreations Will Work

An educated guess on the part of Laura.

ODDS are she’ll be “right”. If by right she means they won’t be “as good” per ratings, quality, casting or … originality.

ODDS aren’t ALWAYS right. Occasionally sequels even outshine the original that inspired there BEING a sequel. Like … The Godfather, and Rocky II. < movies but ones that “worked”.

Dumbo has been re-released to heavy criticism … even though it’s in a new form from the early Disney animated cartoon version.

Good luck to the shows but if people are polled about which version of the program(s) they liked BETTER … it’s a high bar to clear to best a greatly beloved classic.

Personally I don’t know why instead of ‘remakes’ they don’t do mashups.
Battlestar Galactica was Wagon train in Space. (And Piiiigs in Space was a parody of Star Trek.)

Battlestar Galactica remake was much better than the original.

It’s not a remake of the series but a one night special event.

Ingraham apparently judges the event before seeing it, which isn’t knew for her.

Jim

I agree with your take on those original casts.
Also, we live in a much more politically correct world. People are scared to be in the least way offensive to anyone.
It seems like there are many issues that need to be discussed. But some people yell, some people refuse to listen, and others love to demonize those they feel are not politically sensitive.

I NEVER watch Laura Ingraham, so it would be hard for me to comment on anything she has to say.

They said that in the clip. Did you not watch it?

It’s what was written in the body of the article, but not what Ingraham addressed

She’s judging the one time special without having seen it.

Jim

Putting politics aside, I don’t think it will work because the original casts were so iconic. Anyone other than Carroll O’Connor as Archie Bunker won’t work. Sherman Hemsley embodied George Jefferson. Tell me who is going to do better than Marla Gibbs as Florence.

There’s simply no need to remake these shows.
I agree. I’m cool with remakes / reboots when they can improve on the original. But I don’t think you can out do these two shows. The new versions will never live up to the originals.

If remade, apart from choosing actors who might duplicate the originals, which is a daunting challenge, the storylines would have to be updated regarding topical issues because the originals are outdated by today’s standard. Having viewed some of the original episodes, they did not age well IMO, and, to me, do not seem to be as funny (or shocking) as they were when I first saw them. Of course, I have also aged and my tastes have changed.

No Jim, she’s not judging it. She’s placing a bet (without money).

Perhaps she will be wrong. But experience says that if Vegas was taking a bets, many would bet against a reboot of these two series.

Now maybe one night specials might be ok, but honestly - no one can replace Mr Jefferson and Archie Bunker.

BTW - I think Laura can have this opinion & we can have this discussion without it being a political one or a FOX News debate

I’m not too fond of “All in the Family,” but the Jeffersons are still funny to me - though I haven’t seen it in a while

It won’t work. Those shows were made at a time of, for lack of a better word, “awakening” in our society, where we could have honest discussion (albeit via fictionalized characters) without riots and lawsuits. Looking back it was a transition period between the moral code following older gerneation and the anything goes younger generation, but done to show why change was needed. Our society has become too easily offended to allow that type of dark humor to be shown. Not to mention that there’s no comparative contrast to be shown - normal TV and all media are rife with “anything goes” - so unless they are gonna try to swing the pendulum back the other way… .

It doesn’t matter if she’s wrong or right

The show is a one time deal and she has not seen it

Jim

I hope they don’t have the usual stock of 40 kids that aren’t really funny on there.
