Fr. Altier's homilies gone?

Hello all. I just saw this posted at St. Agnes:

Apparently the Archbishop has asked that the homilies of Fr. Robert Altier no longer be posted or broadcast. Has anyone heard anything about this?

No way! I just found out about them not too long ago and have only had the chance to read a few. I’d like to email the Archbishop but would like to know more about this if anyone knows what’s going on. This is so sad.
 
Sounds like par for the course for Archbishop Flynn. St. Joan of Arc and other churches are perfectly free to dissent all they want, but Flynn will crack down on those who are “too” orthodox.

That’s not quite the case, actually. When St. Joan of Arc advertised it’s support of an upcoming gay rights activity on their website, Archbp. Flynn made them remove it. Sadly, he doesn’t sit on dissenters as I too think he ought to do, but he does try to be fair.

Does he? I haven’t seen much evidence of that. St. Joan of Arc, in defiance of the Archbishop’s postcard campaign for the marriage amendment, came up with their own postcard campaign in support of gay marriage, and there’s been no action. It is true that he has had to act against the gay lobby a few times, but though appreciated, they hardly tip the scale to “fair” in light of all of the abuses there and elsewhere he has done nothing about.
 
So della why do you think he censured Fr. Altier then if he is so fair.

by the way what pro homosexual material was removed from the St joan site? how recent did this happen?
 
This is all very sad to me. I frequently go to Fr. Altier for Confession and I took the classes he teaches for RCIA a couple of years ago. (I couldn’t believe how much I’d missed in learning throughout my life, considering I am a cradle Catholic of, gulp, almost 52 years!) I gained great respect for him during that time. He tells the truth. He is compassionate. He’s also a very good spiritual director, although just TRY to get an appointment with him. I got in to see him only one time. He’s booked months in advance and told me he could not take me on long term because he’s so busy. I believe it. There are very few Orthodox priests around any more and people are flocking to them.
 
He should get in touch with Deacon Bill Steltmeyer at EWTN, and maybe they could set him up with his own television series.😉

Canonically he could incardinate into the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, which is what I think Fr. Mitchel Pacwa did. And when Archbishop Flynn retires he could incardinate back to the Twin Cities and resume his Desert Voice ministry. But of course if permission from the ordinary is required for him to leave, then that would probably put the kabosh on the whole idea.

These days are not condusive to Catholic orthodoxy in Saint Paul and Minneapolis to say the least. Particulary when your own shepherds are against you in that regard. Just ask any member of the Legionaries of Christ or Regnum Christi who have recently lived or worked in Flynn’s archdiocese. But personally I have had enough of all of this hypocrisy, and am re-evaluating why I am Catholic at all.

I heard about Fr. Altier and we are down about it. Please don’t question your Catholic faith…that’s what Satan wants, to divide and put doubt into our hearts and minds. I don’t know all the details yet but will do some searching. We love what Fr. Altier says and believe he speaks the truth…like Mother Angelica.

Thanks be to God we still have other priests like Fr Altier to teach, guide and instruct (on the internet and elsewhere) those of us who aspire to holiness rather than mediocrity.

I sent the Bishop an email. It said…“I will pray for your lordship, that you will be open to the Spirit of Truth and Holiness regarding this suppression, and that God will continue to send His flock holy priests like Fr Altier who can inspire His people even as far away as New Zealand.”

No, I can’t support it… but I wouldn’t doubt it. He spoke at a function I went to, and some other members at the function (not Fr. Altier) spoke out against the Virtus program. So I wouldn’t doubt that Fr. Altier isn’t big on it himself… but anyway…that is all speculation.

I am very saddened about his being censored, and would like to know more about why. I think I will write the Archbishop.
 
The archbishop has been very sensitive to the criticism received about the Virtus and the upcoming kids’ sex education program. This is clear from the articles in the Catholic Spirit, which is under the archbishop’s oversight. I recall an article a week or so ago which conveyed the message that those who want to delay implementation of the program are “putting children at risk”. Yeah right—how about gay priests putting children at risk (80% of the Church sex abuse cases were not pedophilia but gay priests molesting adolescent males), which is not being addressed at all by the US bishops? Anyway, the diocese has finally chosen a program----and, wouldn’t you know, Planned Parenthood uses the SAME program! Now there’s a recommendation…
 
VIRTUS, a Latin word meaning moral strength, excellence, valor and worth, is a program for protecting children from child sexual abuse.

:mad: What a bunch of B.S.! My wife and I will be teaching our kids their sex education when we feel good and ready, thankyou very much.
Further, we refuse to cave in to the notion that all preists are perverts and therefore we need to ‘protect’ our children from them. We will not put doubts into the minds of our children on whether we can trust a preist. We will use common sense and trust God the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit ever present. 👍

And Satan is realy good at using Archbishop Flynn as an instrument of division and doubt.

The good archbishop has layed the kabosh on other clergy and religious who won’t ascribe to his regimen of ambiguity. How is a Church supposed to work if good and magisterium loyal priests are silenced or banned by its shepherds? It all leaves me at a loss…:confused:

I hope people on this board who are from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis will join me in writing to Archbishop Harry Flynn.

I’m a former member of St. Joan of Arc so I know what kind of baloney goes on there. It bothers me that they are allowed to post their homilies of dissent and they still have gay/lesbian material on their page (even though they were told to remove it) but Fr. Altier is silenced. Plus, the dissenters are in the newspaper nearly every week and nothing is said or done. They are not excommunicated or even told to cease.

In one of the recent issues of the Catholic Spirit (the archdiocesen newspapaer) it was apparent in his column that the Archbishop was not happy that there were people upset by the Virtus program.

From what I’ve heard from Fr. Altier, Father’s main concerns were that Planned Parenthood was involved in developing Virtus and the material is not age appropriate. Also, it’s better left to parents to instruct their children in sex ed.

We need all the faithful clergy we can get in this archdiocese! One more reason to pray to St. Michael during this Lenten season!

Father Altier is a rare one indeed, at 45 a relatively young priest who unabashedly speaks strong stuff – including prophetic stuff, and including exposes of alleged wrongdoing – from the pulpit. As it was, he had been relegated, at the Church of St. Agnes, in the city of St. Paul, to the 6:30 a.m. Mass (although the church’s website disseminated his homilies).

On weekdays, it has been the six a.m. shift – a Mass that regularly attracts between 75 and a hundred despite the early hour. Some of his homilies, including a recent one, have been surprisingly open in their criticism of bishops.

He may be a bit strong, and naturally we’re not sure of all his views (we all have different ideas), but so popular and unusual have been his homilies that for a while now they have been disseminated over the internet via a website called “A Voice in the Desert.” That website has now announced the bishop’s closure.

For those who live in and around teh broadcast area of relavent radio, Drew Mariani spent over an hour talking about it.
There is absolutely no reason given for Fr. Altier being silenced.
People mentioned that they suspected it was because of the Virtus program, but there is no confirmation of this.
