Does anybody enjoy Fr. Barron’s Catholicism series? I find it just amazing and has revived my faith. It really shows the universality of the Church. Plus he talks a lot about are faith.

I watched it and didn’t mind it but I felt it was a little bit fluffy. I think so much more could have been said about the Liturgy and so much more could have been shown.

I’ve found it very useful to illustrate general themes to family and friends, and to also dispel some common myths which the anti-Catholic press like to peddle.

It’s designed to evangelise and to whet the appetite rather than delve very deeply. I’ve found too much hard core theology turns off people who are just asking about the faith. This series allows a user-friendly way into the common bedrock of the faith.

Fr Barron’s Youtube 10 minute commentaries are excellent too. I’ve used loads of them to help illustrate better what I wanted to say. He has a wonderful gift of communication.

I’ve watched about half of the episodes on DVD, and read most of the book, which has the same content, more or less. I enjoyed it.

I found it highly detailed and informative. In other words, I respectfully disagree with the previous 2 posts saying it is “fluffy” or does not delve deeply. I think of myself as moderately well-studied in Scripture and the Catechism, but I still learned a lot from Fr. Barron’s Catholicism.

I finished watching this series about a month ago, and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. The only thing I missed was an explanation of the traditions of the Eastern Catholic churches; it seemed to mostly focus on the Latin rite of the Church. All in all, it’s a great series. 😃

Yes. Bought it, watched it, introduced it to my prayer group, then to our parish priest, then to the community. Everyone enjoyed it. It made us proud to be Catholic, we all learned something new (or for many, more than one thing!), shared it with our non catholic friends, Now have some new converts and more in RCIA. Evangelization using technology opens new pathways for conversion. Thanks be to God.🙂

I don’t think Father Barron meant it to be like a catechism of the Catholic Church. It was a beautiful review that presented art, architecture, music, various cultures worshipping, and the insightful words of Father Barron.

It was shown at my parish, and many others in the area I live, and was quite inspiring.

Loved it! I found it to be an inspiring tutorial on how the basic tenets of our faith came to be. I learned about some people, places that I hadn’t know about before. It piqued my interest in a number of things. Our parish has been showing this series lately, and for someone looking to learn more about Catholicism, its the perfect starting point.

Agree with the other posters. An excellent series and well worth watching.

One of the things that I really enjoyed about it is how it tended to challenge - but not in a threatening way - certain notions that people have about the faith - - - and that can include many Catholics.
For instance…I liked where he talked about the dangers of “domesticating” Jesus…and losing the sense of the truly radical and profound aspects of Christ’s teachings and who He is.
Likewise he attempts to puncture the image we have of God - of thinking of God as some being - When God is, by nature, “being” itself…Trying to grasp such things can easily make one’s head swim.
Yet as another noted…it can also whet the appetite for more.

There is so much good in it…and it is presented so well…it definitely gets 👍 👍

I enjoyed it and introduced it to our parish. But it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. The numbers dropped each week.
Perhaps it is too theologically deep or maybe ordinary folk just aren’t that interested in Clark’s Civilisation as a model.

Has anyone else found that it didn’t go as well as they had hoped?

It has been a great success in several parishes here. Actually Father Barron has a gift of teaching without being “theologically deep” in that less educated Catholics would not be able to understand.

My 14 year old grandson was very interested in it, as I bought a set for myself and shown it to friends and family.

I know that it has been successful, my question was whether anyone else had found problems. I wonder if it was Carl Olson’s workbook approach.

Being that this is an older thread…I wonder if you would have a better response if you started a new thread asking specifically about these issues.
