I found this video raises some great point’s on how evangelization work’s so well for Protestant’s and what drive’s those who do such a thing. For me what i noticed as i researched over the year’s on Catholic teaching and the why’s behind it etc was how it was consistent with our inner happiness and bring’s us True contentment and Joy. Bringing this Joy and what ground’s it to other’s is one of the most important aspect’s many of us in the Church seem to forget. We sometime’s get too tied up on the Law part of it that it seem’s unattractive to those outside the Church and even lax Catholic’s

But how much joy are you seeing? Forget non-Catholics, how about evangelizing our own to Joy?

I watched this video yesterday and found it to be one of the best he has done.

Yes i fully agree, evangelizing should not just be done to non Catholic’s but for so many of our own who have little to no idea on most teachings

I was thinking too many Catholics know too much about teachings and too little about life in Christ.

Well when 98% of Catholic’s practice contraception i believe and from my experience VERY few Catholic’s know Church teaching at all then evangelizing them is also needed just as much as non Catholic’s. I agree knowing more about Christ through the bible is also key and developing a personal relationship with him so he is in involved in your life everyday rather than just an hour or so on Saturdays on Sunday’s which what it is for so many

And how will you demonstrate your joy in order to do so?

Well i think most are either put off the teaching simply because they don’t know that it’s obligatory and second because they don’t understand how it relate’s to our inner happiness simply thinking these are just are set of rule’s that restrict them for doing thing’s. I do notice a big difference in us Christian’s and secularist’s in our happiness and how we treat other’s whether it be stranger’s, friendship’s or relationship’s etc. Since all my mate’s and most people i know has a secularist frame of mind i do notice a sort of coldness or self centeredness in thinking and behavior that seem’s to be the norm. Anyone who succumb’s to such a way of thinking will no doubt be much colder and unhappy in their lives. I see this all the time, their heart’s become hardened which is why the scoff at Christianity wherever it is mentioned, they see it as being unrealistic and weak which is exactly the opposite. This is why i think to evangelize them and on the joy of Christianity we need to fuse some of our social problem’s and way’s of thinking with philosophical ideas to make people better understand the true nature behind the secular and Christian world-view. Secularist’s are too caught up on the moment that they never want to look ahead at anything and how they bear responsibility or how it will affect them. They must be shown that not only does their way’s of thinking make then more inward and unhappy but it does such a thing because our Natural happiness and contentment can only come through Christian teaching and morality. It’s not that they don’t see the Joy among Christian’s, it’s that they believe that such a joy is induced by what they wanna believe rather than following the Truth which our very being demand’s

Exactly, Benedict XVI said that (paraphrase) Christianity is not a set of rules, not an ethical norm but a relationship with the Saviour.

Which has just got to make us smile. Jesus Christ is alive and well and loves us and is *right here. *

How do we not grin like fools all the time? D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I just forget sometimes…:o

I don’t watch videos on computer as a rule, other than some Youtube stuff, mainly entertainment, but I’ve just heard that Fr. Barron will be speaking here on the 8th March (Brisbane, Australia).

Is he worth going to listen to?

Hold up a sec, let’s put the law into perspective here, because this joy vs. law dichotomy is false, and it is this very false dichotomy that Fr. Barron criticizes as being a part of how we’ve been fumbling evangelism since the 70’s.

As Fr. Barron rightly points out, joy should be the first thing shared when evangelizing. But that doesn’t mean the law should be marginalized. The Lord “did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.”

Fr. Barron observes that once joy is shared, it will draw the “sharee” to inquire about the habits, virtues and laws by which the faithful live their lives.

The law is beautiful, and rightly so. 🙂

Paul made his feelings on the law quite clear in his epistles. I am quite curious why you chose to post this specific passage. What message do you think Paul was trying to get across?

I believe I made my thoughts on that clear in my post (#13). Specifically:
As Fr. Barron rightly points out, joy should be the first thing shared when evangelizing.

Listen, I’d like to have a genuine discussion here. It appears you responded to that post with an out of context scripture quotation, and then when I asked you to clarify, you deflected with a question I’ve already answered. So please, if you could address my question, or make clear what you’re getting at, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I’ll kindly move on to other discussions.

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 1Cor 15:56
That quote has to be taken in context.

"What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said . “You shall not covet. But sin taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead. And I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive, and I died; and this commandment which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me; for sin taking opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.
So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin…For we know that the Law is spiritual; but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin” Romans 7:7-14

and Paul goes on to say: “Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?”

and of course his answer in verse 25 is “Jesus Christ our Lord!”
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

but it is because they have been redeemed by Christ and are now dead to sin, in other words sin has no hold over them, it isn’t as attractive to them because they are following Christ. Of course we fall, but we are supposed to be trying to avoid sin. Jesus himself said that he had not come to do away with the law and the prophets but he had come to fulfill them.
When someone asked him what must he do to gain eternal life, Jesus replied that he must follow the commandments. And when the young man said that he had followed them from youth Jesus said that there was one thing lacking: “Sell everything you have and come follow me.” It’s not Jesus or the law, it’s both.
The Good News of the Gospel is that if we repent, we are forgiven. But repentence is necessary.
