You should start following the threads of “heiscominginthe” for one example among many. (Unless you don’t consider him to be Protestant? 🤷 But he is definitely trying to persuade us all of his belief system, and spending a great deal of bandwidth “teaching us” the “errors” of the Catholic faith.)
Now you could be right! It might be my selection of threads. I stay away from the obvious “idol worship, Marian worship” forums, because I believe otherwise and find them boring. Some of these topics have been done to death.

WRONG!

All priests have been deacons. All bishops have been deacons.

And not even all permanent deacons are married.

Archbishop Roger of Anchorage just ordained a celibate permanent deacon.

I’ve known two permanent deacons who were Dominican friars. One, after 12 years as a deacon, was finally convinced by the order to accept ordination to the priesthood; Friar Anthony Patalano, OP. Friar-Deacon Norbert Finh, OP, also was a permanent deacon.

There is no difference between a permanent and a transitional deacon aside from the shared intent of the deacon and the bishop for him to become a priest or not.

Also, Rev. Fr. Scott Medlock is married, and is a priest. This means he’s also a deacon, but he’s functioning as a priest.
Have you spoken with OTCA before?

Gosh, I’m really sad to hear this about being harassed by Protestants. I was RC for years and recall only once that a Protestant ever even suggested there was something wrong with my faith from their prospective. Being a lawyer, I was in the public constantly and conversed with dozens of people per day, yet oddly I was never “attacked.”

I do admit there are a good number of other RC’s HERE who agree with you. Among my Catholic friends online and in real life, again, I’d never heard this. Perhaps it has something to do with the area you live in?
I think so. As you can see, I’m in Dallas, TX. Let me give you an example of how the “pit of the bible belt” is here.

Right across the street from my apartment is a small Presbyterian church. Just a mile and a half north on my street is another HUGE Lutheran church. Literally, a 1/2 mile north of that one is another “mega” church. All along the same road. I pass by those three Protestant churches on my way to work.

The nearest Catholic church? 3 miles away.

Just this past weekend we were in a town that is north of the Dallas area that has a bunch of new development (thanks, Urban sprawl!). When we left the party, about a mile from the house we saw a baptist church. The next block over across the street, a Presbyterian church. Then a couple miles from that, Methodist. I’m not even sure where the nearest Catholic church is from that house. It’s like that nearly all over the metroplex. I notice it because clearly, this is the bible belt. So there are quite a few Protestants around.

There were a couple (at least one that I know of) mega churches that were the home base for televangelists here.

Now, I’ve been in dallas for about 15 years. Most of my experiences with Protestants that I complain about stem from my experience while living in Dallas. But there was also where I grew up in, southern California, Los Angeles. I met a few Christians at school, of course. Invariably, when they would find out that I was Catholic the response was pretty much “Oh! Well, I’m CHRISTIAN.” Somehow as if putting the emphasis on the word “Christian” seemed to imply that I wasn’t. Infact, when I asked one friend why she said it like that she said, “Oh, because we believe in Jesus Christ. Catholics believe in a church.” I was dumbfounded. 😦

So needless to say my opinions of Protestants has been formed by that. Plus in addition to being told that we’re not the one true church, which I firmly believe. I admit, however, that there are plenty of Protestants who embody Christianity far better than I.
I’ve been on these boards for a good while. I see little of the proselytizing you speak of. In fact I don’t recall any Protestant encouraging a RC to convert to their faith.
It’s not so much that there is out right, “Join us! We’re Christians!” but the threads seem to have more of a, “Well, we’re right, you’re wrong, and here’s why pointing to the bible.” Infact, one dude just started here recently and then he let out he had been in seminary school - and so now he knows all about Catholics. Thing is, I doubt it was a Catholic seminary.

Yeah, I just saw when you logged on. (If you haven’t been on here before that.) I was on prior in 2004 or 2005. Something like that. I just looked and odly enough, I don’t see my name on here anymore. (When I decided to come back to the Catholic church, I also decided to log back on to the forums here. I did not go by my old name because upon Google searches of my name it used to show up associated with the Catholic forums. I didn’t want employers to find that. Oddly enough, I don’t see my name on Google having posted in the Catholic forums now.) But it was decidedly different then, at least, the “non-Catholic” forum was.
Plenty the other way though.
Well, we are on a Catholic message board. 😉
I’ve actually told at least three people who were considering Catholicism but put off by the extremism of some RC’s here to visit parishes and talk to the priests, since I am convinced that most every parish is a good deal less extreme than some folks here are.
Yes, I have seen that. Infact, and I’ve been meaning to let you know… our last interaction I took a good look at how I was on the forums and I’ve really been trying not to come off so self righteous. :o I’m actually not like this in person. Honest! So I think I need to be more of a “live and let live” on the boards too. So I have you to thank for showing me that about myself.

But you’re right in that the forums can have more of an extreme. There are some Catholics on here that were I to talk to them in “real life” I’d wonder if they were evangelicals or fundamentalists.
I surely hope that we can get along. I assure you, I don’t believe in trying to talk anyone into another faith tradition. That is between God and each person I think, and moreover, I think one is more convincing in that respect by their manner of behavior than by proselytizing anyway. As a Catholic nun told me many years ago, that is for the Hari Krisna!
Completely agree with you. Which is why I’ve been taking a look at how I act on the forums.

At anyrate, enough about me. This thread is about Cutie. 👍

Peace.

Yeah, it’s kind of an aquired taste.

Although I think OTCA was right in saying “Deacons are married that is why they are called Deacons”, because “deacon” comes from the Greek word diakonos meaning “servant” or “waiting-man”.

😃

Alright, let’s get serious people, there’s a lot of work to do.

As a servant of about 41 years standing, point taken.

Well, more of a joke than a point. (I wouldn’t want anyone to think that I support misrepresenting/misreporting Catholicism.)

Thanks for your reply. I can understand your sensitivity based on the Dallas thing. I have some friends who live there, and even they agree, it’s one strange world! LOL…I’m glad we have reached some kind of understanding. Blessings.

Well it seems ex-Catholic Fr. Cutie, now TEC Deacon Alberto Cutie (“koo-tee-AY”) got married recently.

Story here: Former Catholic priest in photo scandal marries

If you ask me I’d say it brings subtle new ecumenical meaning to the notion of catching Cooties. 😉

I suppose the shotgun marriage answers my prior question if TEC had a waiting period or something similar to Catholic Pre-Cana discernment before marriage. The answer is clearly “no”. I suppose they figured that the 2 year extended secret test-driving and tire-kicking proves it all out. Assuming he consummated somewhere in there I suppose we can say he is now past the point of the 3 day buyer’s regret period and has to keep her. 🤷

It will be “Jerry Springer ready” now if Mrs. Cutie does the traditional “S. FL thing” and invites her mom and dad and extended family from prior marriage to live with them to keep him hen-pecked and in debt up to his eye-balls with house add-ons and entertaining. 😃

Anyone want to take wagers on whether he has a new one “in the oven” allready? 😃

James,

Have you considered lifting their marriage up in prayer instead of trying to make a joke out of it?

God Bless!

And I suppose you’d want me to consent to blessing your absurdity here too?

Don’t put Cute’s public spectacle and disgrace on my shoulders pal. He mocks himself in his actions.

Do you mean “lifting up” in the theological sense - as in an exemplary of self-sacrifice and giving glory to God as Jesus did on the cross? Or do you mean it in the neo-Christian liberal sense of “lifting-up” against the gravity of moral conscience to give an insincere “good-luck” in an endeavor which we all know must eventually fall to earth under its own weight and cause a lot of suffering? In either case it’s absurd to bless what is worthy of a curse unless one’s blessings are cast with the remedial intention of having God bring them to their knees to repent.

I could never ask God to bless a marriage that He could not possibly bless. Cutie is still living under a consecrated vow to God and Church that he never bothered to ask release from and is unfaithful - holding creature above Creator as well as spurning what he knows is true faith. His new “wife” is already another man’s wife so they are both adulterers and are not sacramentally married. Therefore they are both living a gravely sinful life and in an unlawful marriage (God’s Law).

Pray-tell, what value is an oath of marriage to people who have both broken all their previous vows? There can be no repentance where there is a continuing cascade of sin and disobedience. Therefore there can be no blessing nor any good fruit that supernaturally merits either one which can come out of this illicit union.

You of course may attempt to bless whatever you want. But as for me, I place a higher value on what grace God has given to my custodianship and will not consciously cast my pearls to the swine nor be compelled to bless what is worthy of a curse. They have my prayers for repentance and for God to restore the severe damage they have caused to His Church and to those who will lose heart and their faith over this disgrace. But they shall not have my blessings.

In my personal experience, Catholics are generally very accustomed to using the phrase “lifting up fill in intention] in prayer”. More so, even, than “Free 1,000 Souls From Purgatory & they will pray for you unceasingly all your life!”

CentralFLJames, if you have something to say to me, you can say it here for everyone to see. Please don’t send me any more unsolicited private messages.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. Personally I think you should answer emeraldcoast’s question, especially the first part of it: Have you considered lifting their marriage [unsacramental though it is] up in prayer?

It is my experience that individuals who can’t distinguish the difference between an invitation to bless a disgraced undertaking from a link title to information on how to pray for holy souls destined for heaven are either: 1) out of touch with spiritual reality; 2) unqualified to cast their votes and have them count; or 3) are more sympathetic to accepting and abetting evil works over contributing to the good works and intentions of those who they disagree with on a personal basis. Whatever the case may be the convention is to vote for who one wants rather than to cast a negative vote by blotting out and discrediting those who one doesn’t like.

Your experience is about as as useful as hanging chad is to effecting the election outcome or in being able to do anyone more good than harm…

Interesting … less than one-and-a-half hours passed from the time I asked you not to send me unsolicited PMs (see the above quotation of post #351), to the time you sent me yet another unsolicited PM. That has to be some kind of record, eh?

Hey Gurney - might as well add a few more comments here now that you bumped it.

I think I see the bigger cause and effect starting to fall out of this whole circus.
The ‘Cutie Affair’ (pun intended) is forcing everyone to see that the ecumenical initiatives between the Vatican and Anglican/TEC are essential dieing on the vine. Every time the Catholic Church reaches out to normalize relations we get an ultra liberal TEC bishop like Episcopal Bishop leo Frade pulling stunts like this. This Cutie thing I think is going to be the straw that broke ecumenical outreach between Catholics and Anglican’s/TEC - their house is dividing into every sort of heterodoxy faster than we can put our ecumenical arms around it to embrace it. TEC is a moving target and its pointless for the Catholic Church to even attempt to normalize relations while they not only thumb their noses at us in gloating over Cutie but move progressively toward liberalization of their own communion. I had no idea how liberal TEC has become and can see now why they had no problem with receiving Cutie as deacon and OK’ing the shotgun marriage to a divorced woman. The communion has a “Resolution D039”, passed by General Convention 2000 stating that sex outside of marriage is now acceptable to the church. It’s ironic that they even got married. Why pretend to an orthodox morality that does not even exist in the institution that pretty much now has an “anything goes” behaviors system?

Take a look at this so called TEC “Bishop” Frade (the man who received Cutie with open arms) wearing full regalia and clerical trappings as if he has a shred of real apostolic authority - from a Catholic perspective he looks like a pompous pretender. His bio tells all. Frade was elected Bishop of Southeast Florida on May 6, 2000 after 17 years in evangelizing TEC in Honduras. It should be no surprise that TEC Bishop Frade is also a Latino just like Cutie is. Frade is also proving himself to be an ultra-liberal and has supported the general homosexual agenda in his declaration that heterosexual marriage is discriminatory and politically active in urging fellow Floridians to oppose Amendment 2 to Florida’s Constitution, which would define marriage as only between a man and a woman. It is noted also that when he marched with Anglican Primates and bishops through the streets of London during a Lambeth Conference promotion of the Anglican Communion’s Millennium Development Goals, he wrapped himself in a rainbow flag declaring, “when we talk about justice and mercy, we need to remember that gay and lesbian persons are discriminated against by the church and the government.” This liberal TEC Bishop is clearly an important player in the The Episcopal Church’s liberal pansexual agenda. Note that Bishop Frade, also supported deposing two respected orthodox bishops for ‘failing to conform to the doctrine and discipline of The Episcopal Church’ (no doubt for failing to roll over and play dead on the newer liberal TEC doctrines favoring female and gay ordination but I have not done the research to verify this).

TEC ultra-liberal Episcopal Bishop of Southeast Florida, The Rt. Rev. Leo Frade

Here is a great article pointing out the ecumenical damage caused by the Cutie Affair:
Guest Opinion: Real Scandal in Fr. Cutie’s Flight to Episcopal Church (By David W. Virtue, 6/19/2009)

The way the TEC handled the Cutie Affair may be just what The Catholic Church needed to disentangle itself from bad-fruit ecumenicalism. I think the snowballs all running downhill now for TEC and its setting itself up for major calamity and mass migration of disenfranchised conservative TEC church-goers out and to the only true orthodox church remaining on the planet - The Catholic Church.
