Hi, Does anyone know why Fr. Francis of EWTN’s friars is taking a leave of absence? I mentioned to my daughters he seemed a little different on a couple of shows…mentioning the friars driving him nuts, but I thought maybe he was kidding or going through a phase. He read a statement but I missed it and Fr. Groechel said to pray for him during this difficult time.
Thanks if anyone knows anything. I liked him and Fr. Mark a lot.

I found the answer on another thread…that’s too bad. I sensed an unrest on and off for a while ( I’m extremely sensitive to things like that) but I will pray for him and the widow, who must be going through another great hurt.

It’s closed but 15 pages! Tends to repeat, but most seem a bit shocked, supportive or angry.

I knew a priest years ago that left after many (secretly unhappy) years and married an ex- nun. I heard they were raising many alter boys in the Boston area. I think it’s a shame to lose a good priest but just like people make mistakes in marriages, many priests make mistakes. All the ones that abused children should have left long ago…Fr. Francis fell like a human being wanting love and a widow was open to it. He didn’t have to have had sex, doubt he did, but the heart has a mind of it’s own. Once he mentioned how he wished he could have a team of basketball players or kids to romp around with…you always think the life is greener on the other side, but sometimes you do make mistakes. Nuns leave, priests leave, I hope he doesn’t and I will pray for him, but staying a priest if he wasn’t happy BEFORE this, wouldn’t be right either. Don’t assume he was in peace before her, maybe he was and this will pass, maybe not. But he’ll be somewhere else, EWTN is erasing him now, and he said “leave of absence”, not forever.

Now that members have had time to reflect on and discuss Fr. Stone’s announcement, the admin staff has decided that further public discussion of this issue on CAF can only deteriorate from this point on. We recommend that all who continue to be interested in the case channel their interest into prayer for Fr. Stone and for all those affected by this tragic turn of events.
