I was wondering if anyone know anything about Fr Reginald Garrigou Lagrange. He lived during the twentieth century and is know as one of the best modern Thomists

Yes, he was one of the great modern Thomists and certainly had a strong influence on the Thomists of his day, including Jaques Maritain. I think he is more well known for his spiritual works. I have one on the three stages of the spiritual life and it is excellent.

Know? As in, facts about him? Pope John Paul II studied under him. IIRC he was also very critical of anything remotely modern.

His Reality: A Synthesis of Thomistic Thought is a decent introduction to dogmatic theology. It gives a good impression of the scope of Thomism, and offers points of comparison/contrast with the teachings of Scotus and Suarez.

That said, it fits a lot into the space it has, and does not offer, in my opinion, great arguments in light of contemporary criticisms (ie. it does not anticipate objections).
