Epic fall from grace is putting it mildly!!! For someone who had just converted this was ALARMING! I pray he gets his spiritual life in order again and can refocus and reclaim his passion for the Catholic church.
He was awesome to listen to.

I don’t know that any authority has suppressed Fr. Corapi’s body of work. As most seem to agree, the content of his work was not the issue. It was the alleged moral failings in personal conduct.

That said, it will be difficult in many contexts to use his materials, at least in the short-term future. That is simply because—whatever the truth of the matter is—the controversy and accusations still linger out there. And they remain a distraction.

I know there are many here who can listen to his materials, benefit from them, and separate that from the controversy. But I would never give something of his to a Catholic newbie and say, “This is great stuff! You can trust what he is saying 100%! Just don’t google his name…”

Whether we like it or not, that’s the way it is. People want to know about the people that are witnessing to them. That’s why we are so fascinated by the saints. And when the personal back story doesn’t jive with the message, it can be a stumbling block—particularly to those who are new in the faith.

Now, I can imagine some point further down the road where this would not be the case. Say the accusations were true, and say it is true that Fr. Corapi is on his way towards repairing the damage. Then perhaps it will eventually be made public that he has repented and is right with everyone.

Or say the accusations were false and it comes to light that he was being railroaded. At either of these points, it would no longer be a stumbling block (or at least as much of one) to recommend his materials because the eventual outcome was a good one.

But I’m guessing if the former is true, they are not going to make things public very quickly. They would want to make sure that he is really back on track before they chance making it public and having him relapse. I’m not banking on that happening anytime soon. I think this type of vague good news is probably the best we can hope for in the near future.

Editorial point: my only suggestion (on like posts) is to either go to the next highest font point (size) or pop in a few more paragraph breaks for ease of reading (breaking up the “gray” of long graphs). because Father Corapi was so poular and obviously had quite a following - evidently his merchandise like books and dvd’s were popular - I don’t know what would have to happen to make any previoud merchandise available again or if it ever will be. I pray for and think of Father Corapi often, but the Church and its parishoners were deceived by many priests in the sex scandal and to have a priest so popular on Ewtn and his speaking engagements, etc. to do something like what Father Corapi did is almost as harmful. Many people were hurt by his deception and then abandonment it seemed of the faith.
So I think they were wise to remove what they did. It was very sad and I hope he is getting help and can find peace.

If this is true, which I hope it is, I don’t think he will return to his old apostolate of preaching. The fame May have been too much temptation and it would probably be best for him to fulfill his priestly ministry in a more subtle manner.
