Did anyone else hear Fr Loya’s program today re the statement by Bishop Vartan Waldir Boghossian at the recent Synod of Bishops for the Middle East and the request to the Pope that there be changes made in various limits currently placed on ECs within the Church? Katie Gulas read from the statement, Fr. Tom spoke briefly about it. I assume they will be continuing next week with more on this topic. Start the new secular year off with a bang. Go for it, Father. 👍

Unfortunately it may be a few days before the program gets uploaded to the site. They seem to be a bit behind in doing that-- probably been busy! 🙂

Melkite/Antioch - H.B. Gregorios III Laham
Maronite/Antioch - H.B.E. Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir (Cardinal)
Syrian/Antioch - H.B. Ignace Youssif III Younan
Armenian/Cilicia - H.B. Nersès Bédros XIX Tarmouni

This broadcast has now been uploaded. It’s #326: Christ is born! December 21, 2010. The section I referred to about the Synod begins after they read a letter from a listener about 1/3 of the way into the broadcast. (Slide the slider forward if you want to skip ahead to it.) He promises to visit the issues, at least of married priests, in the future. I hope he does!

I tried to download the 12/21/10 mp3 and received the 12/7/10 mp3. (The link is wrong on their site.)

This link works for the #326 12/21/10 program:

Oh… I included the “Listen” php file and the link you’ve provided the “Download” mp3

Thanks for the correct mp3 link. 🙂 I once got the wrong file before when they had only the old download site.

So I did listen to the broadcast, and the desired changes for a patriarch or major archbishop were:

jurisdiction outside of the traditional territory
ability to elect the Pontiff without begin a cardinal
precedence over all cardinals
ordaining married men outside traditional territories

There are six patriarchs and four major archbishops, and only five of them are cardinals.

Coptic/Alexandria - H.B.E. Antonios Naguib (Cardinal)
Melkite/Antioch - H.B. Gregorios III Laham
Maronite/Antioch - H.B.E. Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir (Cardinal)
Syrian/Antioch - H.B. Ignace Youssif III Younan
Armenian/Cilicia - H.B. Nersès Bédros XIX Tarmouni
Chaldean/Babylon - H.B.E. Emmanuel III Delly (Cardinal)

Ukrainian/Kyiv-Halyc - H.B.E. Major Archbishop Lubomyr Husar (Cardinal)
Romanian/Alba Iulia - H.B. Major Archbishop Lucian Muresan
Syro-Malabar/Ernakulam–Angamaly - H.B.E. Major Archbishop Mar Varkey Vithayathil (Cardinal)
Syro-Malankara/Tivandrum - H.B. Major Archbishop Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal

Plus:
Syrian - H.B.E. Patriarch Emeritus ad personum Ignace Moussa I Daoud (Cardinal)

The current 2010 precedence in the order of cardinal-bishops (* cannot vote, age 80+) is:

Cardinal Dean Sodano *
Cardinal Vice-Dean Etchegaray *

Latin, suburbicarian diocese, by date of promotion:
Re
Arinze
Bertone
Saraiva Martins

Eastern, no suburbicarian diocese, by date of promotion:
Sfeir *
Daoud
Delly *
Naguib

Cardinal-Priests:

Husar
Vithayathil *

It was Pope Paul VI, Feb 11 1965, Ad purpuratorum Patrum Collegium that included the Patriarchs.
