I was lucky enough to attend Mass last night where Fr. Mitch Pacwa was the main celebrant. The passion and conviction he puts into his homily’s is amazing. I had only heard him on EWTN radio prior to last night. This will be one Mass I will never forget.

Peace Mat.

You can watch his weekday Mass on EWTN, usually on Wednesday.

How wonderful! I’m glad you had the opportunity to attend his Mass.
Mass and enjoyed the homily so much.

Mary.

I’m a little envious Mat. Just kidding.
I’m glad you had the opportunity. 👍

He is a true gift to the Church. Such an informed, intelligent source and a deep thinker. He always takes his time and shows the development of an idea in its full context, always pulling from multiple disciplines. I always enjoy his homilies and presentations on EWTN. 🙂

This summer, he gave a day of conferences at the Maronite Church in Uniontown, PA. He is bi-ritual and celebrated the Mass of their rite – beautiful!!

Sometimes, as humans do, we wonder whether a Q&A segment of his TV broadcasts is rehearsed with the questions ahead of time. But when they held the question period after his talks this summer, his immense knowledge was clearly demonstrated beyond any doubt. Straight off the cuff, no rehearsal. And to speak during the length of time in his conference talks – without notes! – was very edifying.

Wish I’d have known.

Peace

If you get a chance listen to a little of his faith story on the JOURNEY HOME radio archive available through this website. Was an interesting listen. As a side note, I travel a lot and am making my way through all of these conversion stories. Talk about reaffirming one’s faith.

Wish I’d have known.
Peace

Father of truth, here is your Son, the sacrifice in which you are well pleased.
Accept him for he died for me, so through him I shall be pardoned.
Here is the offering. Take it from my hands. And so I shall be reconciled with you.
Remember not the sins that I have committed in front of your Majesty.

I try to watch him on EWTN whenever I can. He does have wonderful homilies which always make me think. Congratulations to you!!!

I am not Catholic. I am an evangelical studying/looking at the Catholic Church. I have watched Fr Mitch many times. I think what always impresses me is how down to earth he is. He is.very knowlegeable, but also comes off as friendly, human and genuine. I always appreciate a scholar who laughs freely, who takes truth seriously while not taking himself too seriously.

Great to hear, Mat. It’s always good to find out how people are in person who are in the media. Thanks for posting!

He and I are the same age and I envy his stamina.

This past week Fr. Brian Mullady has been the celebrant on the EWTN masses and he is an outstanding scholar and speaker.

Pacwa admits having travelled to the holy land over 50 times. I wonder what anybody can accomplish doing something like that.

It seems to me that EWTN should have two dozen priests like Pacwa and Mullady.

It also seems that EWTN is very complacent about the formats of their programs. In programs like from these priests or Dr. Scott Hahn, the viewers would benefit immensely if there was an outline or text we could follow along with the program. The way it is, it’s hard to remember pithy quotes or the most interesting discussions.

In Protestant Land, I think it’s somewhat common for the local church to have a library of sermons on tape that the members can go back to. EWTN does offer this service, but at a very pricey $25 or so a pop for a single program.

While I like Pacwa’s sermons and talks, he has a gasping mannerism of speaking which distracts me. (He blurts out something – then pauses. Then he blurts out something else – then pauses, etc. ) He sometimes seems like he’s trying to emphasize every word in a sentence, which makes it hard for me to absorb his thoughts, sometime.

I got through the phone system to EWTN LIVE about a year or two ago, when he had a guest talking (and raving) about Gregorian Chant. My point was that it’s almost impossible to understand the words of GC and he said that it didn’t matter. I think they might have even tried to make the point that you’re NOT supposed to understand it. Well, duh, excuse me.

I used to listen to him on Immaculate Heart Radio before I saw him on EWTN. I enjoyed listening to him so much. I used to go around telling everyone that I wanted him for my spiritual director. To me he is the pinnacle of what a priest should be.
