Does anybody know where I can find a biographical sketch for Fr. Richard John Neuhass? Someone on another list suggested that he is married with six kids. Obviously, he is a convert, but I have never heard of him being a priest who came in under the pastoral provision.

He wasn’t married. I don’t have a bio on hand, but here’s an old interview in which his celibacy is mentioned:

Dear Chicago:

Fr. Richard John Neuhaus was a Lutheran pastor for 30 years and the leading theologian of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, when he converted in 1990 (with the then Cardinal O’Connor of New York receiving him into the Catholic Church).

He was the Editor-in-Chief of “First Things” and continues to be so with the permission of his bishop.

In his own words, Fr. Neuhaus published his conversion story in “First Things” at:

firstthings.com/ftissues/ft0204/articles/neuhaus.html

and his “farewell” letter to his congregation at:

sfbayc.org/magazine/neuhaus1.htm

TIME featured him as one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in America!

Many consider Fr. Neuhaus is to Lutheranism as Cardinal Newman is to Anglicanism: both were respected and the leading theologians of their respective Churches during their conversion.

I would definitely suggest subscribing to First Things. It is an incrdible publication and was influential in my decision to convert. Fr Neuhaus did quite a bit of the commentary during the Conclave. He was on EWTN.
